They are great cars to drive especially the aero models (250BHP), if you can try to get a turbo and avoid the V6.
The best web site I've found is www.saabcentral.com were you can find more information on the specific model you are looking at.
The turbo models are a tuners dream, and you can get them up to serious horsepower, in stock trim they are great for overtaking manoeuvres, the SAAB safety angle.
If they are looked after they can be very reliable, and parts are cheaper than some of the rival marques like BMW, Mercedes.
I don't know where you live but you should find a specialist mechanic in your area who will be happy to keep the car in good order, and for less than the dealer charges.
GM bought 50% of the shares back in 1992, and the remainder in 2000 or something, so they do have more GM parts than they used to (say in 1995), but I wouldn't let that put you off, most cars are made with shared parts from lowlier brands, and SAAB have always used parts from other manufacturers right back to the 1960's. Some things have improved under GM the auto box is from Aisin, the same as in a Lexus and way better than the ZF unit in the Saab 9000 (1986 - 1997), the 9-5 has a better chassis than the 9000 by all accounts too.
Good luck with the search.

I own a 2003 9-3 and it has spent more time in the mechanic's garage than in my own. It's a GM alright. Cheap parts, cheap interior, cheap electronics. I don't know about the expense in repair because it's still under warranty but I'm willing to bet that as many times as it's been in the shop it would have cost me about as much as a starter home by now.
In my state I have to pay extra for car tags because they classify it as a "luxury" vehicle. I didn't realize luxury came with squeaks and rattles every time you drive. I will definitely make this my last Saab.

My brother in law spent over 15 years in the car business, selling just about every marque available in the US.
The old joke was, "If you're going to buy a Saab, make sure you buy two...so you'll still have transportation when one's in the shop."

Should be a good (and safe) car. Used to have a SAAB long time ago and loved it.

Phonetically, it's not the car to drive if you're sad or depressed.
