Yes a civil marriage is as valid as a church marriage. The only difference is that Catholic churches don't recognize the union until the couple has a Catholic service.

Well looking at your answers it depends on what people are considering a civil marriage. There is a difference between a civil mariage and common law marriage. A civil marriage performed by a clergyman is legal. I live in pennsylvania and common law marriage is no longer valid.

of course it is, certainly. know something interesting: in Islam (the muslim faith) marriage is always civil as long as it's acknowleged by the country's law. it doesn't have to be done by a clergyman . a judge or a lawyer can be enough, and besides it's never performed inside a mosque, maybe a hall attached to it. but most people prefer it to be at the bride's house, i say any place is suitable. the true requirements of a muslim marriage is the knowledge and agreement of the bride's parents and making all the people know about the marriage ( know the couple are legally married) u see how the religion as spirituality does not interfer in the marriage

Most of the US states do, why not. You live with someone long enough they are your spouse.
And if they are not then at least you argue like spouses
