alcohol is a depressant so if you are already depressed it seems like a pretty stupid thing to do!

I don't actually drink at all, but I'd like to give you my opinion if you're thinking of doing this if someone on here says they do. I don't think you should drink for any reason, unless you're doing it responsibly, and aren't planning on getting drunk. You should remember that when you are drunk you don't have total control over what you do or say. You could hurt people's feelings, or hurt someone physically. As for drinking when you're down, everyone should know that though drinking may ease your pains for the moment, when you wake up-when ever- or if you wake up(depending on how much you drink) you'll not only have a massive hang over(head ache) you'll still feel just as crummy as you did before you drank. Good luck and please don't drink to ease any problems, IT WON'T SOLVE IT. Thank you/ :)

I did that for many years....but then again being as I have depression it didn't take much for me to drink...I drink more and more...and got more and more depressed. The alcohol can take care of the depression at the moment, but after the moment is gone you feel worse about yourself and the depression just gets worse. After years of drinking daily I went into rehab. Believe me it was the hardest thing I ever did....don't let anyone tell you differently. But in the end I was a little happier and didn't need the addiction to get me through the day. I still think about it all the time and have drink sometimes since then. I always feel worse and worse....there is no easy answer to dealing with depression. Meds don't always help and can be very hard to afford. By try getting in to talk to someone who understands depression. It isn't always easy to talk to people, but it could help. I know I have tried to go to AA meetings here in Vegas and I hate them. I loved them back in Colorado. (Not that I am saying that is what you need.) But it is a free place to talk to people and if you think you could end up with a problem, they can help.

I guess the answer to your question is...yes, I do like to drink when I am down and it caused me so many problems that I don't recommend it. Try to find something else to help you through it.

I wouldn't recommend that. Alcohol will make you more depressed. It is a depressant. I would recommend getting together with some good friends and do something that makes you laugh. Get some excercise, or perhaps do some research on depression. I would recommened this book, " The Feeling Good Handbook" by David D. Burns, M.D. When I was really lost and couldn't firgure out why, thisbook opened many doors for me. Good luck!

No I don't like to drink when I am down and I will tell you why. If you drink when you are down you are more than likely going to become an alcoholic. If you like to sit around alone and drink eventually you will develop a drinking problem that I am sure that you really don't want.

Absolutely.

It doesn't make me feel any better, really - but it does numb the feelings to a tolerable level. And sometimes, a little bit of relief is enough to get you through the day.

Sure, if I'm feeling down, I have no problem throwing a few back with some close friends to cheer myself up.

Be careful though, it could lead to alcoholism. Check out this link:
