I had a five hour glucose test yesterday, they said my veins are small and they think they pushed the needles through one of my veins and they had to put the needle in eleven times in order to draw my blood six times. My arms hurt pretty bad yesterday however today every once in a while my veins start throbbing, is there any suggestions to make it feel better or could it be a major issue?

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Next time you get blood drawn tell them up front that you have small veins and have had issues with previous draws. If the first person isn't doing a good job then demand someone else. There's no point in putting up with something like that!

Try icing the area that's hurting. If you notice bruising that wasn't there yesterday or that worsens then you need to see your doctor. If you had the test done at a hospital, many of them now have a 24 hour "nurse" hot line and they can give you further guidance on what to watch for and whether you should seek faster or emergency medical attention.

Try taking Tylenol or another non-aspirin pain reliever. You need to avoid aspirin since it's a blood thinner and if you do happen to have some bleeding problems it can make it worse.

Apply a hot compress (cloth soak in hot water) and gradually scrub the affected area. It will help you to relax those arms.
