By asking this question you have pretty much already answered yourself. When that little voice pops up saying "Hmmm, you really shouldn't be doing this", then thats a good sign that you are right. Unless you hear voices on a regular basis, then I'd try to ignore them. ;-) I do think that it is improper etiquette to go any where in public under the influence of alcohol. And in many states it's illegal to be in public while drunk.

It's against the law to be drunk in public. You can be arrested for public intoxication. That doesn't deal with the etiquette part of your question, but it may prevent you from having to worry about jail cell etiquette.

I don't know about the improper etiquette, but in most places it is considered public intoxication and will get you a free ride to jail and a command performance in court.

well youre probably being sloppier than you think you are when you are drunk
and maybe louder, ruder, and more obnoxious
youll buy lots of strange off the wall things like pigs feet and caramel apples and nine kinds of kitty litter- and you dont even have a cat!
you might be beligerant and not want to pay
or take something the cashier says wrong and make a scene demanding to be vindicated by the manager
you dont do any of these things?

Well, you shouldn't be driving anywhere if you're drunk but as long as you have someone to drive and you can keep it together I don't see why not.
