I have a Siberian Husky that is a year old she has just gone into heat. I was just wondering if anyone knew how often they go into heat this time a year and through winter if the do or not and how long they are in heat for?

Every dog is different. Some dogs go into heat more often, some dogs have longer heats than other. If you aren't a breeder or showing the dog, get her spayed.

There are 3 stages w/average lengths
1. Proestrus. This is the stage when the female is going into heat but will not allow males to breed. Length=9 days
2. Estrus. This is where the female will accept males and be bred.Length=9 days
3. Diestrus. The dog is no longer receptive and is going out of estrus but you should keep her away from males during this period if you do not want her to be bred.
4. Pregnancy. Average length (counted from first day of breeding)=58-66 days.
5. Anestrus. This is the resting phase between the minstrel cycles. Length=5-7 months.

There is no specific seasons for female dogs to go in heat, most dogs go into their first heat at around 10 months old and then approximately every 6 months after that. A heat normally lasts anywhere between 10 days to 3 weeks... hope this helps.

Good luck

Most large dogs go into heat about twice a year, the heat can last up to 3 weeks.
So keep her away from any unfixed males!

Usually twice a year. Heat cycle lasts generally 3 weeks... first week coming in.... 2 week they will breed.... 3rd week going out.

Safeguard her from any males and if you are not planning to breed her later on.... have her spayed to cut down on health issues and Vet bills.

Hope I helped and good luck!
