It's interesting that the number 666 is assigned to the best, especially when you consider the following:
In the Book of Genesis, it states that there are 6 days of creation.
The building block for organic life (including us) is the carbon atom, which is made up of 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons. Are we all, in realty, the beast?
In geometry, 6 circles of the same size fit perfectly around a center circle of equal size. This pattern is also known as the "seed of life" in sacred geometry.

Here is wisdom: Let him that hath understanding COUNT THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST; for it is the number of a man, and his number is SIX HUNDRED AND THREE SCORE AND SIX. Rev 13:18. So the # is not three sixes or even 6-6-6. But actually 600+60+6 or 6+6+6 in which case the number of the beast may be 18. Remember, "count the number of the beast". On another note I've read this may also represent www. (world wide web) as the Hebrew equivalent of our w is the letter vav or waw. The numerical value of vav is 6. So the English value of www transliterated into Hebrew is vav vav vav which numerically is 666.

The micro-chip implants seem to be the most logical candidate for the "Mark". These would be easily used to purchase items by scanning the chip over a reader similar to a credit card reader. The "Mark" will seem like the best thing to do...money is expensive to print, cash is used in illegal transactions, identity theft is a big problem, people will be very trackable, etc. These chips are about the size of a grain of rice and can be easily injected just under the skin. We are less than 10 years away from this, I do believe.

The mark of the beast is in (not on) your forehead, or in (not on) your hand!
It is what you think and do for the Antichrist!
Just like the sealed of God is in the forehead of his own (not on the forehead).
Some to day are sealed, and some even now have the mark of the beast!
and some can see the mark and seal!

I believe that it will be a computer chip with our personal ID # / bank account # that will be implanted in the hand or forehead. Without it you will not be able to work, buy or sell anything. If you refuse to take it, then they will hunt you down and kill you for being a terrorist. Do a internet search on the company called Digital Angel in Florida. They invented this chip and it is already being used in medical patients and as animal identifiers. They state it is ready for human ID purposes.

Many people used to say it would be a tattoo. In this day and age I think it would more likely be a computer chip implanted under the skin. Which they already do to animals. The technology is already around to do it on humans in fact I heard rumors that it is being considered to use this in the near future instead of money or credit cards. I know I'll decline.

it won't be a literal mark. It will be the government.
It will turn on religion to stop the fighting.
That will be the only way it can see to stop all the wars.
By turning all of its power over to the UN.
Religions is causing the wars and the fighting.
When the UN turns on religion it will destroy it.
The religion is pictured as Babylon the Great the world empire of false religon. The wild beast is the UN>

Though I don't believe one word of that is book is the word of god - I believe it reads "number of the beast" not mark of the beast. The number of course is code referring to a specific person in the time the book was written.
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six."

The mark of the beast will be a tattoo or branding of some sort, I suspect it will be like a bar code where they can scan you and that is how you will pay for things, automatic from your bank account.

I think the book of Revelations is all figurative; no rapture, no mark of the beast, we'll just be gone.
