When one Hispanic gets a job they contact their relatives. There are a great many low paying poor hard difficult jobs that many people do not work very long or do not want to do that these people do. One town that had a chicken processing plant move in which is some awful work had a few hispanics begin working there. The pay is about 6 dollars an hour, it is cold it is wet it is nasty work I did it at one time and quit as I hated it. It made me sick to work in such conditions. My friend who is a Rain Forest Indian did it for a year and said she had to quit because she began having back problems. She was supporting two little girls all by herself. Her husband had been abducted in Guatamala by guerillas to never return. Probably murdered. She walked to the US with a five year old daughter and did anything she could to survive because Mexico kicked her out once for her husband to be abducted. She was raped and she said other people and babies were murdered around her. They work hard for low pay just to survive. I know many who worked locally in Florida at those inexpensive Asian Buffets we all go to for good prices. They told me they work sometimes 70 hours a week for two dollars an hour to survive. The bosses get away with it saying they are servers and get tips. Yeah sure. They are not all Mexicans that are here they say they are Mexicans so that when they get deported they only get taken to Mexico so they can come back faster. Predominantly the ones I met at first are from Honduras, then El Salvador, Guatamala, Portugal, Puerto Rico you name it they are here working for low wages in Florida like we all do. At least I get to go home now during busy tourist season and they get laid off while us US citizens keep the year round work they cannot have. I would rather have these people here legal or illegal than the group of Haitians one hotel brought in who even provided housing for them because Haiti has a big HIV problem there. They do not require medical exams for people with work permits. And I know when the work visas ended these people with high chance of HIV probably did not leave. I noticed after they came here locally the HIV rate went up drastically. They have alot of HIV because they have a group of tourists who like to go there and play with the poor little boys there I was told.

Another factor to consider is that Illinois has plenty of farmlands- farm work is a major industry that hires immigrant workers.

Once people begin to migrate to an area, communities are formed, and it becomes easier for others of the same culture/nationality to move to that area.

hi from illinois! it has a lot of jobs, chicago is an industrial city which can provide paying jobs to mexican immigrants who lack the the education or language knowledge.. i'm sure there are more reasons for the trend. try looking up "mexican diaspora."

i respect your honest curiosity and thanks for pointing out that you are not trying to stereotype. it's a good question and interesting observation, and sociologists study these exact same things.

you've many sturdy solutions. i provide you with my personal experience. I took 2 years of highschool Spanish and then spent 2 years in Brazil. My Spanish education develop into not as powerful in attending to renowned Portuguese as develop into my staggering command of the English vocabulary with its many words from Latin origins. After attending to renowned Portuguese, i might want to comprehend probable seventy 5% of the Spanish I encountered and about 50% of the Italian yet in basic terms about 25% of the French. i develop into down close to the Uruguayan border and the languages tended to mixture into one yet another really. The more effective faraway from the borders you went, the a lot less Spanish effect there develop into on the language. contained in the interior of Brazil, and rather in Rio de Janeiro, the language resembled Portuguese as spoken in Portugal. type of like American as against England even as conversing English. the lengthy island, Bostonian accessory is extra British than say Californian. I believe maximum of your different respondents that Brazilians might want to comprehend the Spanish audio gadget extra fairly than the Spanish might want to comprehend Portuguese. Spanish is extra clipped on the tongue while Portuguese is extra contained in the nostril and throat. to that end, i imagine Spanish words tend to be extra precise and extra accessible to comprehend.
