Pretentious, I'd say.... and an invitation to Trouble.

That child will go through hell with a name like that! (No pun intended.)

What she said or what you said?

Firstly, it is a common mistake that the devils name is Lucifer. It is not. The word translated lucifer is actually a word that is everywhere else translated howl.

The scripture should read 'Howl oh son of the morning!' and describes the king crying out in anguish at his downfall.

Secondly, the name of a child is just the name of a child. A child called damien isn't necesarily the child of the devil. I have known one or two damiens, who were very nice, loving and caring individuals.

Lucifer is not an evil name. People associate so much into words and ideas. Thinking this is evil and that is evil. They never read the truth of God to find out what the truth is.

Like where the truth of god says: The love of money is the root of all evil, and everyone goes around saying money itself is the root of all evil.

No, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

The name of a child isn't evil. What is evil is the hearts of people who go around persecuting others for no real reason. THAT is evil.

Evil is purposed in the hearts of men. It is what people choose to do to hurt others that is evil.

A gun doesn't kill, people kill.

Names cannot be evil. They have no power of themselves, it is what people do with them that has power and you have given this word of Lucifer so much power it is unbelievable.

So why not stop and think. Have you ever seen anything written in the bible that says persecute someone for the sake of the name they give their child? Well? Have you?

You bet you haven't! The way to praise satan is not by a silly name, it is by giving him just the sort of attention you are, instead of just defeating his temptation to tear at people and criticise.

So God bless you. Go and sin no more.

Lucifer is not Satan. When Lucifer is mentioned in Isaiah, it's in reference to the King of Babylon. It simply means Morning Star (Or Son of the Morning Star - he was the son of Venus). Though, what I do find odd is that Jesus is given that very title in Revelation.

But, no, I don't see where it is blasphemous at all.

Why would it be blasphemous to name a child after the planet Venus? That's what the word 'lucifer' means.

Lucifer is not a name for 'the devil' even from a Biblical perspective. It referred to Nebuchadnezzar.

Good grief that poor kid- that father has no sense saddling a kid with that name. Naming someone after a person who had that name usually means the person naming wants the child to be similar and have the qualities of the namesake-praising satan by honoring him in giving his name to the son. What a dufus.

Naming a child Lucifer is a good way of insuring a child will get picked on unmercifully in school.

It would not be my first pick but since Satan was a angel. I do not see much difference between naming your child that or Michael. Either could be sinful depending on why you named them. However, only you would know if it was sinful.
