I conjecture. Grammar, tone, and humor are usually pretty telling, but it's really not possible to tell what a person is like through a message board. For example, I find those that use the Caps lock for a whole paragraph annoying and in my opinion, they have less to say than others and more words to say it in.

No I only learn by their questions. Questions tells a lot about personality and so on..
