A Pennsylvania woman is facing charges for rewarding her son for doing his homework by smoking marijauna with him. She has plead guilty to several misdemeanor drug charges and has admitted that she has been smoking pot with her son since he was 11 (he is currently 13).
Many parents let their children handle fireworks which in some, but not all, states are illegal. But that they see as harmless.
So where does one draw the line? May I please have your thoughts and opinions.

If...
...you give your child an illegal substance and encourage its use you are endangering the welfare of that child.
But...
...my parents let us drink an occasional glass of wine with dinner when we were teenagers. That's traditional in a lot of families.
Some things seem very clear on the surface but get fuzzier the closer you look. I do believe this woman should face criminal charges, but I would have said my father should not for giving me alcohol when I was a minor.
The lines we draw as parents depend on our own upbringing and what we think are the most important lessons to teach our kids.

Rewarding ones child with dope and smoking it with them, is not what I call an intelligent thing to do. You just never know what additives are in the joint. I even have a problem with prescription drugs. I rather let the body heal itself unless there is no other recourse. Fireworks are illegal in my state, but my neighbors fire them off for a week before and after the 4th of July. I have never allowed my kids to touch the stuff. Fingers are easy to lose that way.
Others will do as they will, but as long as you yourself don't follow suit, then you're ahead of the losers.

Oh, it gets a little complicated. Fireworks don't make your brain go funny--unless you count the pleasure one gets from setting off the 'works. Maybe that should be counted because it seems that some folks almost do get addicted to the 'works. Then there is this: no one ever said laws, cultural rules, the legal system, and our mores were "fair" or sensible. In fact, human minds are pretty contradictory. Confusing isn't it?

Definitely not! Some say they would rather have their underage children drink alcohol at home safely than elsewhere. Too many parents strive to be first a friend instead of a parent. Children have many friends but only two parents. My sons and I attend firework displays where professionals handle them.

I don't have parents, but I would not give a child any sort of drug substance. Some parents still act like children, and they should take counseling and take many parenting classes before they become a parent-or maybe they should not become a parent at all. Some adults cannot handle raising a child.

Why do you pick two totally different things to use as a comparison? Getting a child hooked on drugs is a far cry from letting them set off some fireworks.

Interesting...
In England I played with fireworks as a kid with no issue from my folks. Doing drugs with my kids (if I had any), not a chance unless I got MS and then hell, why not!
Not 11yrs old though, adult children maybe

11 is definitely way too young for that. Who's the parent here? I'm all for legalizing pot, but not for minors.

i dont think a good parent would, but i do wonder if she obtained results from this method. did he get good grades? is he a good kid? granted this is extreme, but my point is..did the kid learn anything? if he did, i dont judge so harshly. if the kid goes on to be a somebody, in retrospect would it be such a horrible thing?
