Hello, I recently asked the question about the my allergies and if a quaker would affect them. I know birds molt once to twice a year, but how long does the molts usually last? Thank you.

They last about six weeks and can be quite intense. My cockatiels become very grumpy during their moults and will nip anything that tries to touch them whether or not they're trying to help >.< . Oy.. don't get me started on my attempts to preen their pin feathers. Sweet? What's sweet? My monsters turn into feathered demons if I accidently bump a pinfeather!

I have had a conure for the last almost two years now and a tiel for about 3 months. I have yet to conure not molting. He always has pin feathers on the back of his head. The tiel did it and got it over with but he has a lot of fluff and keeps shaking it in the air and everyone has to cover their drinks. I give them abath and spray them with the bird bath spray but it don't help.

So maybe yours will molt forever like mine. Just so no one thinks there is a problem. The birds are not picking feathers. They have no bare spots and are in great health.

Molting is different for every bird, kind of like a women's menstrual cycle. It usually last 4-6 wks. 1-2 x's a yr. You can get molting formula to help with dander and moodiness. It really makes them alot more comfotable, and you too.

My bird always seems to be losing feathers in some form or another. Mine is a turtle dove so i can't help you with any specifics about quakers.
