Does anyone know about the no contact time when people first join up?

my friend recently joined the army. i herd from another friend that when people join the army they arent able to contact the outside world for the 3 months they are in training. Does anyone know if thats true?

It depends on which country. Here in the UK, the period is normally 5 weeks, but even then, that depends on your training Sergeant - some allow mobile phones, some don't. But there is normally a payphone anyhow.

When I went to basic training, we had access to mail from day one. One of the first things we did after arriving was to write home and give our mailing address. Visitors were not allowed during basic training and phone calls were only permitted in limited conditions.

I joined the army in 1965 then it was only 6 weeks after basic training, before you were allowed out of camp I think 3 months is not correct.

not true. The first 8 weeks of basic training you were allowed visitors on week-ends. After your dutys were over and after you low crawled did push-ups and whatever the DI wanted you to do.

i joined the army in 2002 and thats a load of bollocks mate, ok,. even back when i joined it wasn't that strick> so you can tell ya mate he's lyin and even now you get to go home after 6weeks for a long week end and you are encouraged to phone home, sh*t i mean they bloody order you to phone home, becoz the army doesn't want the OUTSIDE ppl to think that it is a nasty place..............and it's not, i'm still in been everywhere. loving the army me :-)

My friend could write letters and use Internet every day but with limited access. That why is good that you write him.
