spray it with a water bottle

Try to praise the cat liberally and use lots of really gooey baby talk and pick it up and kiss it and generally be obnoxious. Most cats think that's undignified, and if that's what they get when they hop on the dinner table, they will stop going there. Okay, so some cats like the whole fussing-smooshing thing, in which case I suppose a water squirt bottle will work against a less-stubborn cat. It doesn't work on mine, because he just stares at me and his wet spot as if to say "Where did that water come from and how did it get me wet?" then goes right back to playing hockey with the centerpiece.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my cat rusty tried the squirt gun and other suggestions on here didn't work what did work was shaking a plastic bag he (doesn't like the sound) I stopped that though I just station my two doberman pinchers Ice T and Maggie near the table the Cat keeps clear of the area.

1. When you eat put the cat in another room.
2. Never give the cat food in the room that you eat in. always put food in her food bowl if you want to give her table scraps.
3. When you see her on the table pick her up and put her in another room. If she likes to be around people this is a punishment to her because you are shunning her to another part of the house. Do not hit or yell at her. If you see she is ready to jump up on the table call her to you to change her mind to jump up on table. If she comes to you instead of jumping on the table reward her with love and a some play time.

Good luck and happy training!

The electric toothbrush idea is certainly novel. I don't have an electrical outlet that near my table however.

I would use the spray bottle in this instance and I am not a fan of the spray bottle. Think it is much overused.

I had to do that when I got my first two kittens. They loved to sample all my food, the mashed potatoes, the applesauce, the hamburger etc. I wanted to eat my meal in peace!

there are a variety of ways to train a cat to not do something, the two i like most are 1) put some pennies in a soda can with tape over the top and shake it at the animal when it does something you don't like...jump on the dinner table...claw the furniture...it associates the loud annoying noise with that action 2) put a 10% vinegar solution in a spray bottle and spray the animal once with it when it does that thing you don't like...again, it associates the smell with that action....

put tape (like packing tape) along the edges or wherever he lands. cats HATE sticky stuff or ANYTHING on their paws. when your cat gets on the table, tie a big ribbon or long sock around his/ her belly. s/he will lose his/ her balance and fall over on the table (be sure to be close by to catch him/her and prevent him / her from falling on the floor). If this does not work, or you wanna try something "less cruel" try tapping him/her on the nose and telling him/ her "NO." be persistent with this behavior so that s/he knows what to expect whenever s/he attempts to climb on top of your table. Give him/ her treats for NOT climbing on the table. if s/he climbs, commence "punishment."

My cat does that a lot, I recomend spraying it with water every time it does this. If that doesn't work make hissing noises and shake the table.

I also would suggest a water bottle. That way they don't associate you with the discipline and lord knows that cats can hold a grudge!

every time your cat does it , go to it and pick him up and firnly say NO, then put him down on the floor, it will not take long for your cat to get the message
