It's an internet hoax. There are hundreds of websites that make this claim, but it's all false. Check out snopes on the subject:

No studies have shown aspartame to be dangerous! But you hear it everywhere, and some people believe it all, as you can see in some of the above answers.
From snopes: "Our research revealed over 6000 web sites that mention aspartame, with many hundreds alleging aspartame to be the cause of multiple sclerosis, lupus erythematosis, Gulf War Syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, brain tumours, and diabetes mellitus, among many others. Virtually all of the information offered is anecdotal, from anonymous sources and is scientifically implausible."

Well, from the studies I've seen...Saccharin is the worst since it is made from petroleum (yes oil).
Aspartame is okay but alot of people are phentlketonurics --and are allergic to aspartame which is Equal which has phenylalanine.
The stuff I've read about Splenda sounds really good since it is an actual derived directly from sugar. With nominal sugar content it's A-okay for diabetics. Hope this information helped!

ALL substitutes and processed foods are a huge negative on the human body...
Although the american population have seen to accept them in our daily lives because it preserves food longer decreasing costs in losses and many of the chemicals stimulate a specific taste most can agree with...
People long-term have illnesses associated with poor diet throughout there lives... And it's a fact that many corporations fight to keep secret for better financial gains...

Just my personal experience with aspartame: I have Crohn's disease and it makes me flare up badly. But even if it didn't, I wouldn't use it; I'd rather put sugar in my body than some chemical any day!

Yes, it's no good. I developed an 'allergy' they call it to the stuff, but it's a sensitivity that most people can develop. The stuff is not good for the body. It takes away the benefits of real sugar, replacing it with emptiness. I don't know how, but it's not natural, so it's not welcome in my body.
