I have heard they are carcinegentic (cancer causing). They do have protein and good fats. Almonds and cashews are tastier and provide the same benefits with being carcinegens (you can also get almond/cashew butter).

They are a good source of protein. A lot of times you can eat some peanuts and get a lot of vitamins so you'll feel very full. I always buy peanut bars, because if I am going to have to go a long time between meals (traveling or whatever) I know it's a good and healthy snack that will actually hold me over, instead of just eating a ton of worse junk food.

They are a good source of protein, but this can be found in other foods like beans, eggs and meats, so it's not necessarily important.
