It's not unhealthy, but past around 45 minutes of cardio you don't do much. The best is to do about an hour of cardio and then some weight lifting. You'll get the best resutls by then.
YOu will also want to make sure you are eating a healthy diet that's imparative when working your body that hard.

Who said it wasn't healthy? I used to ride bikes 2 hours a day (keeping my pulse rate in the red zone) for over 2 1/2 years and it was the best I had ever felt in whole life. Some bodybuilders work out 8 hours a day for years at a time. Knock yourself out for 2 hours a day and it should be no problem to lose 8 pounds by October. Don't rely completely on the workout alone, watch what you eat!!!

I was in the Military for over 30 years and we exercised daily for as long as 4 hours. I am now 65 and in good health and have not worn out anything by my exercise regimen. However there are lots of ways to lose weight and exercise is useless unless you adopt a healthy diet. I have seen eight pounds go away in a week by eating right and walking for an hour a day. Regulate your intake of Corn Syrup and white flour products, while exercising moderately and you will see the results.

If you are just trying to burn calories, than exercise away.
When you are trying to build muscle, thats when you need to take a break and let your muscles recuperate.
The longer you exercise, the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more weight you lose.
Yes, your body will break down muscle and fat alike to use for energy, but if your goal is simply to be thin, than there is nothing wrong with this at all.
Just drink a lot of water, and make sure you eat properly.

If you are exercising too much, you are not giving your body a chance to recuperate. All you are doing is breaking down your body. I am a marathoner and I do not do more than about 45 minutes of aerobic exercises daily, and give myself a day off every now and then.

It's probably mostly the long-term wear and tear that might affect your joints when you're old. Also increased chance of injuries due to longer exposure to a routine ( do it correctly).
But do you want to live forever anyway? So Go for it!
