A few days ago I was moping my floor , I turned around for a second to rinse the mop , when I turned back around my son was on the floor licking it ! He also did that when I wiped off our coffee table . Is this normal?? Should I talk to his pediatrician about this? He is licking anything thats being cleaned.

kids learn to know things by their senses
they wanna feel things, see them, taste them, smell them and if possible hear them
is a very natural thing and a way of learning stuff
they just explore the world in their own way
nothing to worry about, is a normal thing for kids to do

This is so normal! This is how my pediatrician explained it. As you know children at this age are great exploreres. Unfortunetly, there hands are not as ready for it. They do not have the motor skills needed to pick something up with their hand and really feel it. The next best thing is the toungue. It has close to the same nerves as the palm of the hand. As a result, your baby can feel texture, shapes and the added sense of taste with his tounge. Once he becomes better at his motor skills, he will switch to his hands.

Good luck!

young children learn by touch, feel, taste, smell and sight and hearing things. Most babies learn by way of mouth. tasteing and feeling the textures with his tounge. i know my son likes to see what the cat tastes like and what the bottom of my husbands shoe tastes like and how chewy it is. They cant grasp things or hold things well with their hands and their mouths are more developed. He jsut wants to see what citrus flavor you use for your floors and what citrus flavor you use for your coffee table. lol its natural but be careful with him and licking cleaners they can be very harmful to him. always lock your cuboards and keep your cleaners out of reach. not that you already dont but just procaution.

It's new for him. Give him some more sensory stuff to explore. Like a bag of ice (sealed), bucket of water, playdough, sand, or fingerpaint with him. Putting things in their mouth is normal for 1 year olds.

Put him in his play pen while you are cleaning to keep him from getting sick from the chemicals. But I think its a natural thing for lil babies to do. They are learning they can taste different stuff.
