The real story ? It happened right here on Long Island, THE TRUTH: Watson and Crick had some of the idea but, not all of it. Dr Rosalyn Franklin (a Female scientist) knew the missing piece of the puzzle, Watson and Crick went to her Lab and saw her work, Watson and Crick then ran back to their lab and put the whole story together on DNA. They then let the news out that THEY (Watson and Crick) had discovered DNA (Robbing Dr. Franklin of her thunder). They later stated that she helped them in the discovery of DNA, but she was robbed !

Friedrich Miescher, of Germany, was one of the first scientists to belive that cells are composed of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). However, several other scientists had theorized that this was so before he did.
However, Miescher (as he proved the theory) is called 'the father of DNA'.
