If you were my friend, seeing that you spent money to fly out and what not, I wouldn't be expecting an expensive gift. Some of the gifts I loved when I got married were just simple cheese and cracker crystal platter ( I think it cost 40 bucks) and another serving platter. I really use those gifts all the time.

While it is possible to pick a good gift yourself without sticking to the wedding registry, it's pretty rare. Usually the bride and groom are trying to build up a collection of nice items for their new home together, and it's important that the new home reflects styles that fit both of their personalities in the lifestyle they want to have together. Depending on your budget, a gift card may or may not be a good idea. I'm sure they understand that you don't have a lot of money to spend, but a low value gift card comes off as cheap and thoughtless. Look through the registry for items that fit your budget. If there's a choice, you can either go with the one that you think is more of a "you" gift or you can try talking to someone in the wedding party and asking whether the bride and groom would prefer gift A or gift B.
If there just isn't a wedding registry, towels are an inexpensive item with some room to guess wrong. It never hurts to have extras for guests or emergencies, so if they happen to choose a different color scheme for their bathroom, it's not the end of the world.

Something that they cannot tell how much you spent for it. I have one here but ou are there, such as a big flower arrangement that I bought when a florist was clsing, was over a hundred, got it for ten.
Matching bathrobes from Ross Dress for less, takethe tags off. A new suitcase from Marshalls, no bag that, you would need two.
You need a friend that buys gifts in advance when the deals are good. Ask around. Older folks are best, like me.

Depend if you are invited for the evening only or everything like supper time with alcohol include. For the evening party and if you are alone i think it will be a good think to put in a card 30.00 to 50.00. So if you are invited for all the day and the night include launch, it's a good idea to give 100,00 or a bit more.

I love the idea of a beautiful wedding scrapbook. Take a camera along with you to the ceremony and reception and take lots of snap shots that you can send to them at a later date so they can fill the beautiful scrapbook that you gave to them. Find a local scrapbook store, and check out the possibilities...

Get silverware or a set of dishes...those you can usually buy at good prices for good brands (max. $70, but usually less)....if not, a gift certificate should be fine...if he's your best friend, he'll understand that you don't have the money to buy him extravagant items

One of our favorite wedding gifts were board games. We got scrabble, monopoly, and a couple others and we play them all the time when we're bored or we don't want to go out! You can get a fun game for like $10. or you can get Twister, for naked twister! ;-)
