I'm currently shopping for home insurance and I need some answers quickly. I currently have Allied Insurance and am thinking switching over to Western Mutual because of the cost for the policy. Anyone know the differences between the two and what's the web site for checking reputations and so forth about an insurance company from the states i've living in??

Make sure you check the policy. We just signed a contract with a company in our agency. We asked a lot of questions and were satisfied. After signing the contract, I read their policy. There is no way that I am going to place any business with this company. You need to read the policy and see what you are getting.

Ex. Some companies offer backup of sewer and drains coverage. You pick and amount and assume you are insured for that amount. Some companies will only cover you if it is sewage that backs up. Some companies will only cover you if you have drain tile around your house. Don't go for the cheapest. Check out the company and also the policy.

Ask the agent "Would you insure your house with this company?"

I would never write any home with a company that I would not insure my own home with.

Make sure you check the insurance company's credit rating ..Western Mutual is rated A- which is pretty good.

Amica consistently gets very good service ratings and is rated A++. Insurance is no good if the company is insolvent when you need them.

Try Allstate. I got tons of discounts by having ADT security installed. Plus you gotta ask different companies about discounts from being a part of certain organizations. I did and got further discounts.
