I get so annoyed when I see all these questions about teens having sex. Teens having sex is not something that just started happening yesterday!!! My grandpa was 17 when he and my grandmother were maried; she was 19. They had their first child in around a year later. My parents had me when mom was 18 and dad was 23. Does anyone else get annoyed with this or is it just me?

It can't be all that new if my grandparents were doing it...my grandmother is 76 now by the way.

to christine...I'm sure if I can handle 2 kids, a full time job, a home, a car payment, bills, I can sure as hell handle making love to my fiance...we obviously had to do something to have our beautiful daughters, and it sure wasn't immaculate conception.

I wish they'd bugger off a bit. I mean if teen sex wasn't seen as such an unnatural, disgraceful thing then more teens would get birth control. I think anyone should be allowed to get birth control for free, without parents knowing no matter what the age. Condoms are technically "better" but I'd rather hear tell of an immature, promicuous 14 year old with Herpes than that she has a baby who she's unsure of the father or he bailed.
I'm not saying that all teens are bad parents just there are some that are. It's a lot easier for a girl to take a pill in the morning than try to remember about condoms when she's piss loaded.
As for marriage all today's "adults" are so damn party happy they wait until their thirties to get married. And kids? Ooh lets have them at 45 so that they'll come of age just in time for them to start paying for our nursing home care!
It makes me SICK. In my opinion everyone should get married in their late teens or twenties and have all their children by their early thirties at the latest. As someone mentioned it takes a lot longer than 18 years to raise a child! Someone should have said that to the fifty-something year old author who just had a baby!!! *angry*
Yes, I am in my late teens, married, and pregnant. I am also a little tired of hearing all of "them" blame all of society's problems on teen pregnancy.
And its a fact of history and nature... All living things have sex once they hit puberty. Some start doing "it" at 12 some at 16 but there are very few who wait until 20.

Yes, Teens have been having sex for years and years. Way back when it was considered unacceptable, many women would be sent away and disowned by their parents for getting pregnant out of wedlock or at such a young age.But now it seems like its become more and more acceptable for teens to be sexually active. Statistics do show that there are more sexually active teens nowadays then ever before. Look at what influences teens have, MTV with all the hip hop videos of half naked women shakin their booties, pop singers like britney spears, and paris hilton who is just a useless idiot...just to name a few. Its good to hear your family when having their children so young were able to give them a decent life. But there are many teens that get pregnant that can't or don't have the means to support a baby, or give them the life they deserve. Many kids are irresponsible and immature and when they are being sexually active, they're not thinking about the consequences of their actions...those kids are the ones that seriously need parental figures and guidance in their lives. You can get annoyed all you want, but maybe when you grow up a little, or maybe one day end up having to support a grandchild since your 14 year old daughter can't, you might think differently.

I don't get annoyed. As an educator I think that 13 and 14 year olds, that can't spell, read or write, should not be engaging in adult behavior.
Teenagers that engage in adult activities, do not have the strength and courage to say NO. They're basically weak minded individuals. They start off having sex with one person and by the time their senior year arrives, they've slept with their entire class.
STD's, pregnancies...and AIDS...
Please don't compare your grandparents to children of this day and age. The majority (like my grandparents) are still married, and don't have a grocery list of sex partners...

I completely agree with you!!! THANK YOU!
My mom got pregnant at 17... my grandmother got pregnant at 16... my great grandmother got pregnant at 15... I am now pregnant at 19 (by the way, we ALL were married before we actually got pregnant... but it doesn't mean we married as virgins...) ... so... my daughters great great grandmother is STILL ALIVE because everyone had their children so young.
My mom was telling me about a month ago about how when she was in 7th grade there was a fat girl in her class who slept with everyone on the football team and wondered why they ignored her in the hallways.
Teenage sex is NOT something new! It's so irritating seeing these people asking "Why are young people these days having sex?" I just say, "Compared to what days? Young people have always had sex!!! It was expected to have children at around 12 or 14 just a little over a hundred years ago!" People need to get over themselves.

most of the Parents are afraid to discuss it which is stupid
but as told them make sure you are protected
that it the only advise
I do get annoyed when people used your age as a reason to not do certain thing
I find that today teenager are more mature and will take better care of a child than some of the so call adult that are in their late 20 +

It's nothing new. It's just a personal thing. If you can handle all the emotional and PHYSICAL crap that is part of sex, fine.
If you can't then wait. There , that's it. If you become a parent, that is way longer than an 18 yr. commitment. Think life. If you're cool with that, then it is great.
Are you ready to settle down and be a parent? If not, protect yourself. But be careful and be smart.

Teens having sex is Stupid, I waited until marrige and I was still to young, Girls get emotional while Guys just want more and more, Now girls are trying to act like guys and in the meantime they are losing their sense of values, and their self esteem, Life was a little different when our grandparent were 16, they were all out on their own at that age, most teenagers today cannot even support themselves and as far as I am concerned until you can Get your lazy, playstation playing asses off they couch stop smokin weed and pull your head out of your *** you should'nt be pretending you can handle a grown up thing like sex. It comes with Concequenses, that most teens cannot handle. And if you don't want to grow up then keep your pants on and your legs closed. anyone ever heard of STD's my girfriend got one from her steady boyfriend of 6 years, he was 33. She'll have it the rest of her life, and guess what they were using a condom. Its not all cut and dry........oh yeah her baby has it too.

It's not new...remember Romeo and Juliet. They were young and that was back in the Renaissance Age. No, teens having sex or even starting families is a far cry from breaking news. My mom was 15 when she got "knocked-up" by my dad. Of course, they were having their first child in 1944!

It irritates me too. Something else that really gets to me--people who think all teen pregnancies are due to teens being uniformed and not educated about sex. While in high school, I never heard someone say "You can get pregnant if you give oral sex." or "You can't get pregnant while having unprotected sex." These things really get on my nerves! Kids have sex--most people had sex when they were a teenager, like you pointed out. There is nothing to do to stop it except making it MORE accepted. If people can have sex out of wedlock and it's accepted, why can't teenagers having sex be accepted. If it was accepted I believe more teenage girls would not be afraid to get on birth control. They would know where to go and wouldn't be embarrassed to get the proper protection they need to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Great question!

I don't think they believe its something new.It just so much more prevalent now.Back when your grandparents were teens people didn't sleep around as much.I lost my virginity at 15.The thing that annoys me is that teens are so loose now.I had a steady boyfriend and only slept with him.The young teens nowadays sleep around with every tom dick and betty they meet.its like they are wild animals in heat who can't control themselves.I mean they are constantly sniffing asses and looking to get sniffed. They seem to require nothing not even fidelity ,anymore. Now its all about casual sex,and that is not only disgusting, but dangerous these days.
