Is it just because it's a rule cause they say so? Is there a reason it's more proper? Just 'cause that's how it's always been? Is it serious just a deep rooted tradition they defend for no reason besides some people a long time ago said that that's how it should be?

If that's what it is then when are the women finally going to try to put a stop to it? I mean, if you like skirts that's cool but isn't it a little condescending to say that you aren't aloud to wear pants? It just seems a little pointless and controlling to me.

So what is the root of this tradition besides that they just think that's how it should be?

To anyone coming in, if it's a modesty thing, isn't it just as easy to have impure thoughts about a skirt, I mean it's completely open. And to Will, yes I'm an atheist and I do dress however I want, I think you're confused.

It's a cult thing. Supposedly, long skirts are more modest than pants. I'm all for modesty, but I can't live without jeans.

I wear jeans, I wear skirts, but I don't think one is better then the other. I do wear skirts to church, out of respect. Never ones have I been told that I have to wear a skirt all the time, and I'm from a religion that is considered a "cult".

In the eastern relgions, it is done because of modesty reasons. If a woman wore pants, you could see too much of her figure and this would lead to improper thoughts in men, which would turn their thoughts from God/allah/whatever. It was meant as a protection for women also.

In our western society, with the way skirts are inching up the legs, I think it's more modest to wear pants then some of the skirts out there. I don't like to wear skirts. I feel uncomfortable in them. I would hate to have to wear them all the time. I'm so grateful for my jeans and my sweats!!

I went to a church like that growing up. They believe dresses are more modest than pants, that pants outline a woman's form too much whereas a dress is looser fitting and skims over the form. I believe that loose fitting pants are as modest as dresses. .
These churches base their opinion from the book of Leviticus where woman are commanded not to where mens things, but if you read the rest of it, there are all kinds of things that don't pertain to todays culture, like not to where mixed types of fabric. Some churches make an opinion doctrine, which is wrong.

Where do you live - up on a hill? Sorry I've never ever been to any function that had a dress code like that. In fact some say dress as you want as long as you attend. Most the examples on this site sound like 50 yrs ago.

I believe it is because pants allow one to see to much of a woman's figure, and might lead to impure thoughts in men.

This is a rule left over from a much different culture. In our (western) culture, we're usually able to control impure thoughts if a woman is wearing anything at all.

They have to wear Long skirt and they say it for modesty because when you have pants on you can see a woman's shape.

I wear skirts and dresses only but no one makes me do so. I choose to dress in a feminine and modest manner.

You would probably consider me a fund. christian. My church nor any of my friends churches have any such rule. The only rule is modesty that you not cause another to stumble.

Skirts define a woman's role. What she can do in a skirt is appropriate for her gender. That's not my idea, I was a Tom-Boy.
