I would need to know something about your church to answer this question.

My first question is...Do they think that ALL tv shows and video games are bad???? If not, then I can answer this for you.

First of all, if you are spending more time watching t.v, playing video games, spending on computer than what you are studying God's word, that is bad. That is almost putting things before God.
Secondly, for myself and my family, it's not the T.V. and video games are bad in moderation. And then it depends on what kind of T.V. and video games you are talking about. We do not watch anything that we would not feel comfortable watching if Jesus were sitting in my living room watching it with me. The Bible says, what you take in through your eyes will end up in your heart. You should not want those things in your heart with Jesus.
Make Sense???

Many Christian Churches and individual Christians seem to believe that all time should be spent praising God and on Christian activities. So your church might object to television and video games as not Christian enough.

Or, they might object just to violent TV shows and video games. Most Christians (and many concerned parents and the occasional senator) feel that seeing fake violence can make someone into a violent person.

Your church may have something there.
First of all there is also a growing body of evidence that many video games “stress autonomous action rather than cooperation.” According to Cesarone, “an anonymous character performs an aggressive act against an anonymous enemy and fights to win or to kill.” The superhighway of video games appears to have little sense of community values that Christian educators teach, and few team players, with most games not allowing more than one player.

Research points out that “exposure to violent games increases physiological responses, aggressive thoughts, aggressive emotions, aggressive actions and exposure to violent games DECREASES POSITIVE ACTIONS.” Frequent exposure to ‘mindless’ television or video games may idle and impoverish the development of the pre-frontal cortex, or that portion of the brain that is responsible for planning, organizing and sequencing behavior for self-control, moral judgment and attention.”
There are longitudinal studies which found that 8-year-old boys, who viewed the most violent programs growing up, were the most likely to engage in aggressive and delinquent behavior by age 18 and serious criminal behavior by age 30.
You can start with a few video games but as long as it does not lead to more and more and you enter a cycle of unending video games that manifest as negativity and isolationist tendencies in your life, you should be OK. I guess with many forms of pleasure, it is important not to get addicted.
Before video games, Americans use to get out more and meet people, now all they meet are the characters in the games.

Why don't you ask your eclesiastical leader.

I personally think TV, and video games are neutral medium that are often used for bad and good, and we have to be smart enough to tell the difference.

Probably under the assumption...

Trash in...trash out...

There really is a lot of trash on TV and video games.

Once you have seen it or heard it, you can't take it back. You can disagree with it, however, it will still leave an imprint on your brain. I limit myself on what I watch, not because my church tells me too (and they don't) but because I know TV does rot the brain. ;o)

Perhaps this is something you might want to discuss with your parents. They have the final say.

Grace to you and God Bless!

it might not be, but it can be. phillippians 4:8 " whatever it true, right, noble............... exelent praiseworthy, think about such things"
time you could be using to serve Jesus " in whatever you do, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the father through him" (col 3:17) that could be tv and video games, but is it?

because they expose you to "free thinking" and non censored
depictions of what the world is really like. because they show you what is going on in the world and allow you to make the decision about what you wish to believe.

because it is contrary to the indoctrination process.

without more details this is what i would think...
