He's supposed to work hard all of his life. Unfortunately we women have to work to support the family now too.

You know, as a woman of age 50, I have experienced all these aspects of being a woman, and I cannot say that any of these phases of my life can be called "curse" -- in different ways each of these aspects of womanhood is a blessing and very precious, and now in menopause, I am discovering another phase of fulfillment and joy in life.

The passage that gets labeled as the "curse" put on humans as a result of disobedience is twofold--the women have the burden of bearing children, the men of tilling the soil and raising crops. In the face of late Iron age life, neither one was easy -- agriculture was in its infancy without technological innovation and the infant mortality rate was high, with many mothers having to face the tragedy of miscarriage, stilborn children and death in early childhood.

In some ways this passage is merely a reflection of the harshness and reality of life at that time in history.

Since you're asking this question, you might enjoy reading Carol Meyer's "Discovering Eve" ---the author has a different way of translating the "curse" in which she observes that the correct translation of the verse is not "pain of childbirth" but sorrow of pregnancies" --that is, there will have to be more experiences of pregnancy in the face of the frightening infant mortality rate--in other words, this is sort of the patriotic duty of early women --to courageously bear and raise children in order to populate the small nation of Israel.

If you read the story in Genesis carefully, you wil see that God curses the serpent and says that the ground will be cursed, but these statements to man and women are not expressly stated as curses...something to think about!

God told Adam that instead of a life of light work in the garden, he would have to work hard and toil and sweat just to survive. Also, while Adam and Eve would not die immediately, their earthly existence would come to an end someday and they would die.

As a final punishment, God drove Adam and Eve out of the beautiful Garden of Eden, never to return. Even though Adam and Eve had been severely punished, God still cared for them, but their relationship with God was changed forever because of their sin.

Initially, God provided everything Adam and Eve needed in the garden. When Adam sinned, the ground was cursed, and Adam had to plant and raise his food, "by the sweat of your brow".
Until then, Adam had not lifted a finger toward his own prosperity. Now we have hunger and poverty in the world.

Banishment from the Garden of Eden and the perfect life. Death, hunger, greed, hate... all negative human emotions were caused not by the sin of Eve but by the sin of Adam.

The Bible says Eve was deceived where Adam chose to defy God.

The curse Adam got was that he had to work hard for his food (ie it wasn't just handed to him anymore, but that he had to become the breadwinner), the curse of death entered through him, and his wife would be clingy to him (technically, that curse was placed on the woman... but it probably bothers men more than women).

And yes, God told Adam not to eat it.

well have u ever thought that dealing with you during all those curses was curse enough? adam ate the apple out of love for eve not because he was stupid he would have rather suffered the worst of Gods vengence so that his love would not suffer alone. It is mans curse (and blessing) to be by womans side.

Adam and man in general was cursed with having to work for his living all his life. God said the ground would not bring forth it's abundance for him anymore. He would have to deal with thorns and thistles and he would work by the sweat of his brow until he returned to the dust from which God had made him. They were also both driven out of the Garden of Eden. Also, God said that woman's desire would be to rule over man, but she should be submissive to him instead.

You know ladies a woman this answer may come as a shock to you...I know it is sometimes fun to demean the men in to imbecile, but I have to defend him. I believe that Adam saw that Eve had already been deceived and He loved her so much he went against the Creator because he did not want the Gift and special creation God gave him (Eve) to suffer alone. So that is why he ate of the fruit.

Eve was blessed to be the vessel of life. I had natural childbirth, the biggest orgasm I have ever experienced. Menstruation is not painful to all women or viewed the same in all societies. Because of what Adam did men are supposed to earn their bread by the sweat of their brow.
