A small salad, soup in a thermos if its cold out. I also think a bun would be more exciting than bread if the only choice is a sanwhich. Chicken and pizza are good cold.

Buy a Thermos and you can put all sorts of hot or cold goodies into it: stew, soups, mac and cheese, fresh fruit(cut up), roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy(all together); The thermos is a totally underused invention!

Carrot and celery sticks, some cheese, kielbossa some crackers ( make sure they have all the food groups). And some juice or flavored water.

My sons favorite was a good large round crackers .two kinds of cheeses American and Swiss, pickles and sliced ham, and a fruit cup.

carrot celery sticks. pudding (they sell a kind now that have a gramcracker stick instead of a spoon) chips(oldie but a goodie) a little note for them to have a great day, grapes, raisins, of course cookies or candy bar. beef jerky, etc etc etc.....
