Because I really think it was just a metaphor.

I'd like to elaborate:
Some of you say "well if Adam and Eve didn't exist we had to come from somewhere.." Well where did Adam and Eve come from? They were just placed on the Earth. Why is it impossible to believe that God placed a civilization on Earth and used the story of Adam and Eve to get the point of "sin" across? I mean think about it: if you were told that you can't do this or that because it was bad you wouldn't understand, but if I told you a story about why it is good and/ or bad you would put what I said into context and it would make more sense. People learn, for the most part, by having a picture painted for them with stories.

welll lets see. adam and eve werent put here with pen and paper in hand? when was that first invented? how did they document their lives as soon as it happened and even before it happened? this must have been just like the telephone game, passing down a story through generations (and if youve ever played telephone game, the story gets skewered, exaggerated here and there, things left out). soooo no, i dont think that is what happened, i think it is more of just a story.

I do!

And if it was merely a metaphor, upon what evidence or authority do you base you conclusions? Or is it merely your opinion?

It seems to me that there is plenty of evidence to prove that Adam and Eve were real people who existed just as the Biblical account states. The Apostle Paul was certainly one of those who believed Adam and Eve were real people. A deeper, more important question might be to ask where the idea that Adam and Eve were NOT real people came from. I believe most of us would be shocked to know, because the proof of where that idea came from is right out there in this internet!

Well the bible old and new are just story books, written by man, but think if you were around in those days, would you really understand what you had been told about how life began, why not explain to someone saying the the two orgasm's swimming around that were the start of life that God gave us, why not call this two Adam and Eve, and before anyone says we were created in God's image, what does God look like, do you really think he looks like one of us, No he is far more advanced than that, this would explain how man spread al over the world.

If Adam and Eve did not cause sin to come into existance, then sin does not exist, then Jesus' sacrifice to cleanse you from your sins was in vain (and in fact, Jesus must be lying, since if there is no such thing as sin, then Jesus must be a liar or a madman, and therefore cannot save you from something that does not exist, and His promise of etermal life is in vain... and then, who really listens to the lies of a liar or the rantings of a madman?), and hence, your faith (assuming you're a Christian) is also in vain... and you will be damned, at very best, to an eternity of non-existance, the same as any other atheist... and at worst, in some other religion's Hell.

If there is no sin, then there can be no punishment for sin, and hence no Hell, and hence Satan is still counted amongst the cherubim in heaven. So Satan's word is still valuable to listen to.

If Adam and Eve was all just a metaphor, your faith is in vain, and no one can save you from death, nor have you any right to Heaven.

EDIT : Devlsadvoct, I suppose you never, EVER, in your life call a "spider" a "bug", and never, EVER, say "sunrise" or "sunset"?

I don't doubt it at all. But I don't know if it happened exactly the way that most people interpret the Bible account of it. An alternate story of the creation of man can be found in the ancient Sumerian epics, which have been translated, and interpreted by Zecharia Sitchin. They tell of Adam being born, and his mother being a goddess.

Scholars and serious theologians agree that the story of Adam and Eve is an allegory or fable.

But millions believe it is literally true.

You think it's a metaphor? Compare it to the theory of evolution. Men do have one less rib than women. Scientists have proven that the earth used to be covered with water, in Genesis it says, the earth was covered with water, void and without form, then God seperated waters from waters and the dry land he called earth and the waters above the earth he called heaven. God said to him a day is as 1000 years and 1000 years is as a day. It's your choice wether to believe or not, that's why it's called faith, but I advise that you read Genesis all the way through and compare it to scientifically proven facts before you write it off as mythology.

I would hope that most people think it's a metaphor or something like that. I mean really, has no one heard of inbreeding? Humans would have died out within a few generations if we were all decended from one couple.
