These statements keep coming up. MAN - You guys even fight each other even when you share a common belief. So - why aren't Catholics Christian and vice versa? Someone explain this to me....

I've always understood that a Christian is someone who looks to Jesus Christ as their savior and redeemer, so I've always thought Catholics were Christians.

It just seems some people have very nit-picky detailed definition of what makes a person Christian that seems to exclude a lot of people who aren't in their own denomination. I don't think they realize how insulting that is to a lot of people.

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are some minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

their beliefs for the most part are the same, with regards that christians dont "pray to mary" and christians dont have a political system embedded in their religion (where as catholics have pope and what not) that and catholics made a bad name for themselves with their influence on rome to take over and murder thousands who didnt believe as they did. or the pope who has more money/power then many of us, is catholic, hes supposed to be giving to the needy? (isnt there a verse, a camel can pass through the eye of a needle easier then a rich man enter the kingdom of heaven?) bah.

all it ends up to be is another sect of the same religion, such as there are sects that include gays and some that dont, they all believe the same with a few things slightly different. (i think theres some kind of fued between catholic/christians)

The difference is that according to some research done online and talking to other catholics is that Catholics pray to mary Like they do the hail mary's.

And me being just a Christian (and not a catholic) I pray just to Jesus (and not to mary)
I believe that she is Jesus's mother.

And we don't put her statue up in our house or our church. She doesn't deserve that respect cause Jesus is the one who died on the cross for our sin's not Jesus.

We know the history of the Christian church. Its just whatever you were taught its not the same as the Christian church. The two links below are about two different religions. One focuses more on Mary & the Pope (catholics) and the other focuses on Jesus and the Trinity (Christians).

Do you notice that Christians just call them self Christians and no other religion like you do? We don't call ourself catholics or any other religion.

The Apostolic church was around for almost 300 years before the Catholic church. Christians do not need to go through Mary to get to Jesus. If you read the Book of Acts, you will find that Mary was in the upper room at Pentecost. She needed the Holy Ghost just like everyone else there. She also was not sinless. She made a sin offering at the temple. The apostle Peter taught baptism in Jesus Name. The catholic church baptizes in the titles, father, son, and holy ghost. The list goes on.

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the history of the Catholic church and her attempts to prevent anyone from being anything other than a papist?

Catholics worship the pope as their God (speaker), protestants worship whoever they currently favor, including themselves, as their Gods (speakers).

Since God does not exist, people have to invent one who suits them. Some people worship the pope as God, others do not.

But, they all want to force others to follow their chosen Gods and that's the only thing they have in common.

The church is within every denomination throughout the entire world.

We who are in Christ Jesus have become a “new” creature (Gal.6:15, 2 Cor.5:17 below). We have BECOME the church of God (1 Cor.10:32, 1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.1:13 below), Jesus’ living body (Col.1:24 below).

No matter which denomination one attends, the living body of Christ is there.

Gal.6:15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (2 Cor.5:17 below).

2 Cor.5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (Gal.6:15 above): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

1 Cor.10:32Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

Col.1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which IS the church (1 Cor.10:32 above).

1 Cor.1:2Unto the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above) which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

1 Cor.15:9For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above).
Gal.1:13For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above), and wasted it:

Eph.2:16And that he might RECONCILE BOTH (Jews and Gentiles) unto God IN ONE BODY (the church of God - 1 Cor.10:32 above) by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Catholics ARE Christians--I read this all the time on here, too. I sometimes wonder about people. If Christians do not know anything about Christians, how are we ever suppose to get them to know about Judaism, Islam, and other religions.

The Catholic Church was the first Christian church (for those who do not know), and all the other churches evolved from it.

Catholics communicate with god through the church and the priest class, christians communicate with god directly. Aside from that no real differences. But, hey, if your a christian you have hate something of how blessed can you be?
