is it the same as a baby

There is discussion that suggests that nursing a child for too long is damaging to the child. I think this is the primary concern. While a mother may want to continue the tender relationship that is achieved through nursing, the best interests of the child must be considered. A child that is nearly school age and therefore is able to get all of it's nutrition through whole foods should probably not be nursing from it's mother. Nudity in itself is not dirty or shameful but this does not sound like a healthy situation for mom or child.

That is not my own personal comfort level, however:

There is no scientific evidence that breastfeeding causes emotional, mental psychological or physical damage at ANY age. If there is a study out there that HAS proven harm from breastfeeding, please post it.

Other cultures have different standards when it comes to nudity among families. It is not my place to say what works for that family is "wrong" simply because it is not what my family does.

For example: some mothers take showers/baths with their kids and help them get clean. I am in the room with them, but not in the tub. I don't think it's wrong for a mom to shower/bathe with her kids, it's just not what *I* do.

Short answer:
No, I would not nurse nude with a 5yo.
No, nursing a child is not the same thing as nursing a baby.

If I had a 5 year old who still had a need to nurse and both of us were happy with the nursing relationship, then I would nurse a 5 year old.

NOW....would I nurse a 5 year old naked? Probably not. I'd say somewhere between age 1 and 2 I would no longer be comfortable nursing completely nude.

I do still shower with my 3.5 yo and 5.5 yo daughters sometimes.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion when it comes to how long to breastfeed for. I personally think it is too old at 5 to still be on the breast. I have 2 children (3&4) and am 30 weeks pregnant with no 3 and I still sleep nude, if that is how you always are then I don't see why not. Your child would be used to seeing a naked body unlike some children who have no idea and get the shock of their life. Although there is an age when I think things should change. It is all personal preference.

I can't honestly believe you are asking that question.
If you mean breast-feeding, then 5 is too old. It has been fully weaned by 2 years old, any longer is the mother's inability to let her child grow into a toddler.
As for is it the same as a baby!!!! Oh come on please!! You have to ask? NO! IT IS NOT THE SAME AS A BABY! Babies need milk, preferably heir mother's.
Why would you even want to nurse nude? what are you getting from it? And how long would you plan on keeping that up for. Would you still do it if the child was demanding it in its teens?
Children who demand to be breast fed after age of 2 or 3 do so because they have had the insecurities of a clingy mother instilled into them. They need (and usually want) to establish their own independence and start trying to do things for themselves.

No. If I nursed a baby, I would be clothed, except for the milk area and I would stop nursing at 1 year old. Why do you want to continue nursing a baby past 1-2 years????

I do not think that being nude with the child of opposite sex is a good idea, same sex maybe.
By the age of 3 or 4, children usually know that boys and girls have different genitals. To satisfy their normal curiosity about each other's sex organs, children may play "doctor" or matter-of-factly take turns examining each other.
Between the ages of 5 and 7, children become more aware of their gender. At this stage because children can pick up faulty information about sex and reproduction, it may be best to ask what your child knows about a particular topic and if he is curious explain him/her.
Teach them about your expectations and values but do not exposed yourself.

I worked in a daycare Center In Phoenix In the toddler room, There was an American Indian lady who was nursing her little girl, evry day on her Lunch, No one thought it was wierd, The little girl was about 4 , I would not do it myself, and I think Children should be weaned By the time they go to school AT LEAST! Like the moms above send them to the fridge!
No negitivity on Breatsfeeding here I nursed all three of mine But come on! When a child can get it all by his her self They can eat from a plate not a boob!

I like Minnesota Moms answer, send him to the fridge or pantry. I can't believe you are even asking that question. Nursing a 5 year old?? And I bet he's almost 6, you still put him in diapers 24/7 and a onesie, he still sleeps in a crib and he still has a paci. I also bet that you go to his pre-school to nurse him and change his diaper too huh. Nursing at 5 rite......
