Most doctors agree that kids should carry
no more than 10% to 15% of their body weight in their packs.

You should not be carrying or using a back pack which is causing you pain. If using a pack pack the weight should be distributed on both shoulders, thus you should be using a two strapped bag.
So cut back on the weight your carrying now. While I like a back pack they are not the best thing for a seventh grader to be using. Too much weight and stress on your shoulders is bad for you.

While it seems that every child carries a backpack during the school year, most parents – and children – are unaware of the potential injury that too-heavy packs can cause.

With school starting in just a few weeks, Dr. Leonel Hunt, director of spine trauma at Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders and Orthopedic Center, offers some advice to reduce the back and shoulder pain that as many as half of all school children experience each year.

“While backpacks are considered the most efficient way to carry books and other items kids need for school, it’s important they weigh less than 15 percent of a child’s body weight,” says Hunt. “Otherwise, over time, a child can experience back pain and soreness that can lead to problems that may require medical treatment.”

You should only be carrying about 10 percent of your body weight. Try using a bag that goes over both shoulders. This will evenly distribute the weight and you will have more stability. If you are looking for a website - you could try any TV news channel or your school website. You could also go ask your school nurse, counselor, teacher, or principal.

Switch to two strap Back Pack or Rolling Back Pack.

Most back pack now have maximum weight you can carry without damage to you or to the bag.

You need to carry what you need, do not carry every thing.

Does pain go away after a while, I do remember having the same problems, long - long time ago.

Just simply lighten your load or invest in a back pack with two straps or get a back pack that rolls on the ground. I use to have the one that rolls because I couldn't lighten my book load, I think that will be the best solution for you. Moreover, we all have had sore shoulders, that is not a big deal, switch shoulders honey. You will be okay.

We'll I would say not over 10 pounds. Hey I used to walk really far with a book bag that weighed 25 pounds and I was a tiny girl. It sucked. Try to get your mom to pic you up or something, if you have to carry alot of weight.

get one with two straps.

It will distribute the weight better.

Also, don't lug around books you don't need every night.

What I used to do was steal another book, keep that one at home, and then keep the one with your name in it at school in your locker.
Then at the end of the year, return your other book also.

That way you never have tow orry about taking it home!

Get a two strap bag if you possibly can, that way the weight is evenly distributed.
