My 17 year old Siamese cat needed to gain weight so we were told that baby food in a jar, like any kinds of MEAT (little jars). It helped keep him healthy for years. He died this year, he was 20 years old. He only like certain foods as well. But he LOVED baby food.

It sounds like your cat has been spoiled with people food. :-)

You need to stop feeding him people food as it isn't healthy for him.

Try using some sort of dry food, it is good for his teeth. His teeth and/or mouth may be hurting which is why he wants the pork.

Maybe the reason you cat doesn't want the cat food is because he doesn't like it. Try using a good quality cat food, not the kind you get from the supermarket.

You can buy gravies and such to top-dress the food, which make the food more appealing.

To make him gain weight, you can put about 1/8 cup of corn oil in his food. Not only will he gain weight but he will have a brilliant coat.

Good Luck

I have six cats in my home and what's for dinner is what's for dinner. If they don't care for it they can skip it and hope for something they like better at the next meal. I could not possibly consider catering to each individual taste.

Pork is not a good meat for cats. It's a little on the fatty side. Any cooked meat does not contain useable taurine for a cat. Cats must have taurine in their diet -- lack of it can lead to blindness and heart problems.

Get a good canned food such as Natural Balance which has quite a variety of meats and flavors. Serve him half a can and put the rest in glass dish, covered, for his next meal. He can go for 36 hours without eating anything (no longer). He will eat what you serve when he is hungry. Even if he only takes a few bites that is enough.

I just went through a month's siege getting one of my cats to eat what I considered he should eat. I have won my battle and he will be a healthier cat because of it.

Iams is crap, don't use it. In fact, if you want him to put weight on, canned food is best.

You say he doesn't like it....but that's all relative. Have you given him alternatives? Given time, cats will eat just about anything. Believe me, they won't starve. If he'll eat PERIOD, odds are it's not a medical problem....so he's just being finicky.

We've recently switched our cats from a mostly dry food, free-fed diet to two meals of soft food and raw meat a day. My male is being stubborn.....so I'm waiting it out. He'll eat once he gets hungry. And if he doesn't, I may have to give in and get him some high quality dry food.

Cats like eggs, too, so you could try those.

And hard food doesn't do much for a cat's teeth. Their teeth aren't built to mash....so the food doesn't get mashed. Dry kibble tends to shatter when bitten into, causing next to no abrasive action on the teeth whatsoever. And since cats can't mash the food, they end up swallowing whole chunks of the dry food....some of which get stuck in their teeth, turning acidic and causing plaque.

They make a paste called Nutri-cal. It comes in a tube like toothpaste most cats love it. It adds calories and vitamins to the diet usually for sick or pregnant cats. Call your vet and ask if they carry it. Is he really skinny or just not fat. Most cats are overweight nowdays so don't over do it. Good luck

several brands of cat food make formulas for cats that need to gain weight. I would check at purina.com or one of the other brand websites.

Why don't you try mixing wet food with dry? And he'll stop snubbing cat food if you stop feeding him table food

I had to feed mine with an eyedropper for awhile. But aside from that, have you tried fresh fish? My kitty was too skinny and it turns out she likes dry foods with more protein.
