If it is antique pewter, NO, do not eat off it!!

"Antique pewter is an alloy of lead and tin. The lead makes it darken to its characteristic shade. Because of the lead, these antique pieces should not be used for food or beverages. Modern pewter is mostly tarnish-resistant alloys of about 90% tin with antimony or copper. It is lead-free, will not darken, and is safe for use with food. It is a soft metal alloy, and is easily bent, or scratched."

I just bought some Wilton Columbia and Wilton Mount Joy pewter dinnerware. Can I eat off of this? I don't know how old it is, but I have a nice dinner set for six.

Sure you can. There is a restaurant near Monticello in Virginia where it is colonial style and they serve good ole fried chicken, lots of home cooked veggies and serve on pewter dishes. You sit on a picnic style bench and table with an old fashion fireplace. Cool place.

You are worried about lead poisoning. If you scrub the plates well and dry with a towel, there should not be a substantial amount of lead coming off. Some cheap plastic cups and plates would probably be a better idea.
