Let me guess, first year art student or A level?
Jasper Johns was a fantastic American Pop Artist,so try researching pop art for what would have influenced his paintings.
There are tons of websites dedicated to him so try googling his name.
Here are a few to be getting on with...

At one stage one of Johns´flags was the most expensive work of American Art.
He is famous for numbers, flags and letters, which he overlaid into semi-abstract designs. He usually also used encaustic (a wax) to create texture.
It would be unusual to call him an expressionist~he is more connected with Pop.

he is an awesome painter. i wouldn't really call him expressionist, though he worked at the same time all the abstract-expressionist painters did. his work was more conceptual, and it often played off what ab-ex painters did, almost like a parody. he would take symbols like letters, the flag, or targets, and paint them in a "painterly" way... (art teachers use that word all the time...) one of the big paradoxes is, "is this a flag, or just a painting of a flag?" i have heard that he is a funny and quiet kind of guy. i'm sure you can find out more online...
