I believe most plums are red inside. If you're talking about the ripeness, press on it a little and if there's a bit of softness to it then it's ripe to eat.

i just bought several varieties at a fruit farm and i bit into one that looked very dark but it was very white inside,,actually tasted like a peach. I believe the only way is to look where they have them displayed,,,i bought the ones that said Red plums and they were indeed red inside. :)

chomp...? my guest,as all the ones Ive eaten were dark red.might be the not too sweet less ripe one I havent tryed?

you just touch them if they feel soft but not to soft than they are ripe meaning they are red.
