So if we take the biblical timeline as fact and calculate the age of the earth backwards it would show that the earth is about 6,000 years old. Wouldn't this suggest that we are very close to the day that God rests?

I'll only give the points to an answer that has some thought put into it.

This is an exert from a Christian Film called End of the Harvest. The synopsis of the movie is:

A philosophy club meeting filled with atheists humiliating a Christian A Christian out of fellowship with the Lord seeking revenge A mature believer hesitant to share his faith A controversial report putting forth a theory about when Christ will return

Now what I find compelling about this movie are the details of the paper that is discovered containing the theory of the end times and Christs return. It really makes you think considering the times we are in, especially if you take a look around and see what is going on in the world. I truly believe we are in dark times, but they are times filled with more hope than a person can imagine. Think about this, almost two thousand years ago people witnessed the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus. We hear and read about His life and I am sure at some point we all think If only we could have been there to witness such a great event. Well imagine we are now on the brink to once again witness His return. The thought of something so historic happening can not be summed up in words. The only problem is that this time it will not be a King who humbles Himself and allows His subjects to humiliate Him, this time He will come back to claim what is His and judge what is not.

Anyway before I get on this total rant and you are thinking blah blah, please read the exert of the movie going into detail the report that was written. It is very thought provoking and compelling

The Big Picture?

A college student named Jeffery Bartell wrote a paper in 1949. He concluded that the time immediately preceding the prophesied return of Jesus Christ had begun.

The scriptures make it clear that no one knows the day or the hour of Christ's return. But the Bible does say that we can know the times and seasons surrounding His coming. Never before have the conditions been possible for so much of endtime Bible prophecy to be fulfilled as today. You may be thinking, so, because disease and immorality are running rampant, and because there are wars and rumors of wars, and that we have had a few more earthquakes, that Jesus is coming back soon? We've heard all that before.

To Bartell, the Bible is the greatest book ever written. Its message is so simple that it could be summed up in just a few verses. Yet at the same time, it's a book with so much depth, that you could study it a lifetime, and still not understand all its truth. Bartell's theory about the endtime started when he read a verse in Isaiah chapter 46. It says that God declares the end from the beginning. A similar passage is found in Isaiah chapter 48. This lead Bartell back to the beginning, to the book of Genesis and the creation story. As he studied the first chapter, he began to wonder why God took six days to create the world, and rest on the seventh. Why would he take six days when he could have created the world in one second, in the blink of an eye?

Bartell studied the words day and days in the Bible. He discovered some interesting passages that related to this. He concluded that perhaps God was indicating to us how much time man would have on the earth.

Bartell makes the point that the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, is full of foreshadowing. An event that actually happened in history, also pictures something coming in the future. An example would be when Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Isaac. That event actually happened, and it was also a picture of what God would do with his son Jesus on the cross, as an offering for the sins of the world. Now, why would God take six days to create the world? Is this a picture of something that we need to know? Bartel thinks it is.

In 2nd Peter 3:8, the context is referring to the second coming of Christ. The Bible says that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is one day. In Psalms 90 it says that a thousand years in God's sight are but as yesterday. So, could it be that the six days of creation were to indicate to us, the time man would have on this Earth would be about six thousand years? The seventh day of rest picturing the thousand year millennial reign, when Christ comes back to set up his Earthly kingdom. The time of righteousness and peace.

Bartell documents in his paper how Bible scholars have calculated from the first man, Adam, to the first coming of Jesus to be about four thousand years. If that's the case, then we could be living right at the end of what the New Testament calls the last days.

Bartell makes a big issue about how God deals with time in the Bible. When God measures time, He does so by sevens. God created the world in seven days, with the seventh day being a day of rest. According to the Old Testament law, the Jews were commanded to rest every seven days. The seventh week after the Passover, they celebrated a big feast of rest. The seventh month was perhaps the most important when they celebrated three of their biggest feasts of rest. Every seventh year was a year of rest for the land. Every 49 years, seven times seven, they celebrated the year of Jubilee, which is a year of rest for the land and liberty for the people.

So it made sense to Bartell that God would set up a seven thousand year period for man to occupy the Earth; with the last thousand years being a time of rest when Jesus comes back to set up His Earthly kingdom, as spoken of in Revelation chapter 20. Bartell was right when he says that when God deals with time, He does so by sevens. There's no other more predominant system in the word of God. The second coming of Christ is the most important day on God's calendar. Bartell was convinced that He wants us to know about it, including the timing.

Hosea was a prophet in the Old Testament. In chapter six of that book, Hosea talks about Israel, God's chosen nation who was always rejecting God. The nation was going to be torn apart, but verse two says: After two days will He revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight. What does this mean? When Jesus came, Israel rejected Him as their messiah, so God scattered the nation of Israel all over the world. For 1900 years there was no nation of Israel, but God says that after two days, or two thousand years, I will revive thee, and you, Israel, will live in my sight.

The scattered Israel became a nation again in the year 1948. This is important because God is reviving the nation of Israel and they are about to live in His sight, when Jesus comes back to set up His Earthly kingdom. Have you ever met a Canaanite? How about an Amorite? No. Because these were Israel's enemies and they have not been preserved. The Jews have been preserved because they are God's chosen people, and He must fulfill and keep the promises He made to them. But the Jews are still rejecting Christ. For how long? After two days (or two thousand years) I will revive thee, and in the third day you shall live in my sight. The second-coming events are about to begin.

Bartell sees the same foreshadowing in Exodus chapter 19:11. God told Israel to clean up and wait for two days. The third day I'm coming down in the sight of all the nation.

In John chapter 11, Lazarus, a Jew, has died. Jesus waits two days before raising him from the dead. Why? Bartell says this pictures how God is about to turn his back on Israel for the next two thousand years (or two days), and start reaching out to the rest of the world through the New Testament church; which He did.

God didn't just throw that stuff in the Bible to waste space. Maybe Bartell is right, maybe God is trying to tell us something. Bartell points out that in Matthew chapter 17:1 that Jesus takes Peter, James and John up to the mountain, apart from the rest of the group. What, you ask, happens up there? Jesus is transfigured before them, and they are given a preview of His second coming glory. Now, the first words of that line in scripture are after six days. Why did God throw this in? Is He just wasting space again, or is God perhaps trying to tell us something that we need to know?

Remember, the time from Adam to Christ is 4 thousand years (or four days). The time of the church period is two thousand years (or two days). So could this mean that after six thousand years (or six days) God would revive Israel and fulfill the promises he made to them? Now, either Bartell is reading too much between the lines, or God is trying to tell us something.

What He is trying to tell us is, the kingdom of God is about to begin; the day of rest (or one thousand years). The resurrected believers, and the believers who are alive when Jesus returns, will reign as kings and priests on Earth (Revelation 5:10).

Actually, given that literal interpretation, the earth is about 12,000 years old. 6,000 years for the creation, and it's been about another 6,000 years since Adam. However, that doesn't take into account the 7th day when God rested (which already occurred according to the literal interpretation, again). So add in that 1,000 years as well and you're up to 13,000 years.

But I digress. The "6 days" is neither a literal 6 24 hour period days nor a 6 1,000 year period. It is symbolic of the creation process which probably took far longer than 6 days or 6,000 years, given the evidence we have from the fields of geology, biology, chemistry, etc.

According to your math, the world is 12000 years old, then. This is an impossibility because there are ancient civilizations (China, for instance) whos calendars go back even further than that. I would also point out that Genesis is speaking in the PAST tense, to if we were so foolish as to take the biblical timeline as fact, the 6 days of creation and then rest already happened.

This is, of course, ignoring all geological, radiological, chronometric, and palentological evidence that says the world has been around many many times longer than the biblical claim.

The earth existed before Gen.1:1,2;
The earth existed before Gen.1:26; "Let us make man".
Since Man it is the world that is 6,072 years from Eden, Satan, Adam and Eve.

If we learn the bible as we should, the time for all things is there. No one can say it is not true.

What you are saying is that time has no meaning to God. If it's like a 1000 yrs, why not a billion yrs. In the beginning there was darkness upon the face of the deep. No sun to tell what a day was as we know it. And the universe is still being created. So how can we put a time limit on something that we don't fully understand?

2006-09-12 09:57:47 · answer #5 · answered by Cal 5 · 1 1

I understand where you are going with this. However that verse was telling us that time is not the same to God as it is to us. And it can not be applied to the creation story.

In verse 11 God created the grass on the 3rd day. Then in verse 16 he mad the sun on the 4th day. Grass or any other plant could not survive 1000 years without the sun. But he is God. And God is not confined to days as we are.

But I do feel that Jesus's return is drawing near if that is what you mean. After that 1000 years of peace. So he locks satan up so he can rest for a day. Sounds plausible. Thanks for the question.

Well, using those calculations - it is not actually 6,000 years but more like 13,000ish years since we have recorded history from about 3,000 BC. Then again, we could be on the 1,000 years for a day calculation. This would put us at about day 12,983.

But what this particular scripture is really telling us is that Heavenly Father's time and our time are not comparable.

You assume its been 6,000 years, its been longer than that.
Most conservative estimates put earth about about 20,000 years. Remember that the gregorian calender, the one we use now, was not around until well after, several hundred years I believe, Christ was resurrected.
So using your premise, we are well past that.
So, what does God's resting mean to you in this context?

The debates between creationism and evolution always seem to hang up on the fact that there were other types of human like creatures and dinosaurs for thousands of years that are unaccounted for in the bible. Perhaps the thousands of years in between were before Adam and Eve left the garden and in fact all that happened and ended in an ice age before they were kicked out of the garden.

Perhaps Jehovah created the world in six days. But God Jehovah sums to E thus is second in heaven.

God Most High sums to H as does God and is first in Heaven.
And most descriptions of God in the bible lead to Me.

And God Most High can only be proven over tiMe so see tiMe and also MARCH APRIL MAY for description of the God Most High who is H and H kind of says =I7 which is My birthday. Our QUEEN even celebrates Her birthday on the 17th instead of Her real birthday. Guess its their attempt to be like Me.

So basically this Jehovah and Jesus were written about in order to piss Me off.

So its basically said God is practically in everything. How is He in you? A bug? In your name? For Ladies only: in your womb?

And this corner of the world basically hated Me since i revealed who the Angel in the form of the burning bush was. And basically He is the way they still call Me. Those hoping for the prince of darkness say i have no rights. However My merry band of Indians still gave Me rights cause they paid for My schooling. And truthfully I would give My freinds the shirt off My back. But LORD things over Me and i will forget your a freind and use My GOD given talent to show you your faults. I consider Myself a biblical scholar and know its contents. just cause I don't have memorized the verse and chapter numbers doesn't mean I don't know the spirit and intent of its contents.

1st commandment
thou shall have no other Gods before Me.

Me=IVI stitched together e(arm)

thus basically a sign nobody outranks ME=IVI stitched together [iL

a living God rejected as bible foretold but those who follow HIM shall not be disappointed was also quoted.

God was called the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS also the Lamb SLAIN.

the KING=IT I IV(stitched together) CUT
the LORD=See TODD of the LORD
write those in times new roman font.
Lamb SLAIN=Larrib SiL A I IV(stitched together)

So although i didn't start out to be your biblical God it appears that whatever i do I fit the description of the God who was the invisiable God that could never be seen. That meant at the time of writting He was not born yet.

bible and writting BIG and BOLD the letters just like ancient Paul and some crazy fing nights. you all consider My writtings nonsense however your bibles says GOD will use what many consider nonsense in order to shame the rich and powerful. So obviously God is a TARGET of the rich and powerfull.

Write these words out in times new roman font:

GOD
EMPEROR
KING
LORD
DON
GENERAL
ANGEL
GODDESS
QUEEN
LADY

Then cut them apart and see what Jesus talked about obeying them all makes you the Greatest. It appears to be about someone called Lare TA-D with some cuts. And if Romans 16.27 is true it says "to God, wise alone, belong the glory..."
Thus all those on the list pertain to God the wise ONE.

We are in God's rest day because in Genesis 2: 1-3--we see that God had completed all His work at the end of the 6th day and rested in the 7th day. So then we are actually living in His Sacred 7th Day and most are profaning it by not being Holy.

Adam was 33. Christ was 33.
