I am Christian and I have liberal beliefs. My family is very much Democrat (though I am Libertarian) and they are also very Christian.

Most of the answerers think that if you are a Liberal (democrat), you can't be a True Christian.

So, tell me why and also point me in the direction where I can find out what political party Jesus Christ affiliated himself with. Thank you.

Oh, and those who like to leave biting remarks, don't be cowards, allow some contact through Y!Answers for people to rebut. Otherwise you just seem like little fat bullies who slap kids in the back of the head and run behind the teacher.

RL S -

Abortion - woudl agree...republican platform (imperialism)

Feminism - um, i don't see the problem there. I think Jesus would have been ALL about equality.

Legalized Drugs - nothing in the bible about that either way. nor is there anything about that in any democratic platform.

Homosexual "Marriage" - I would agree. But republicans have decided to involve themselves in America's personal life as well. See, the Patriot Act

Over Taxation - I agree. But you can't cut your pay flow and spend billions on war. However, taxation is not addressed in the Bible

Welfare- Wealth Redistribution - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Nuff said

Anti-Christian - Yeah, I haven't met a leader who is anti Christian or seen a platform that is Anti Christian. Unsubstantiated

Political Correctness- Word speak (lying - so Republicans or conservatives don't lie and don't indulge in wordspeak?

Bottom line is you have to research on your own and not assume Rush is Right. Please.

The problem is that most people who claim to oppose liberals aren't using the word to mean what the dictionary says it means. They are using the word as an insult, and with their own perverse twist that renders the label utterly meaningless because it has no consistency. In other words, most people who call others "liberal" have no idea what the word really means, and so the label is devoid of actual content.

Most of the rest assume that Liberal = Democrat, which hasn't been the case for decades. While many liberals are still members of the Democratic party, just as many are not. And because they can't make the distinction, they assume that every liberal automatically agrees with every aspect of the Democratic platform, many of which are considered atheist.

In both cases, the people who are screaming and frothing at the mouth about incompatibility are making the most superficial and shallow assumptions and associations, and not bothering to look at the underlying issues.

Then there are the people who only consider someone to be a True Cristian if that person agrees with the concept of forcing their particular religion down everyone else's throats. But again, the labels have become meaningless because nobody is actually paying attention to what the words mean -- just what they want them to mean.

So, if someone declares that you are not a Christian because you don't do what they want you to, you have a choice. You can either allow them to define the words and the beliefs for you, or you can just tell them that they are sad and delusional and ignore them.

"Oh, and those who like to leave biting remarks, don't be cowards, allow some contact through Y!Answers for people to rebut. Otherwise you just seem like little fat bullies who slap kids in the back of the head and run behind the teacher."

Actually, that would be more like what you're doing, emailing them instead of posting whatever you want to say for everyone to see, like they did.

Edit: Read your quote above. You're saying that when people leave "biting remarks" you want to be able to email them. No doubt to insult them and act smug where no one can see. That's a lot more cowardly that simply not wanting idiots spamming your inbox.

Edit: "From: DEP

You're such a good christian. Didn't I tell you I was done with you? You can stop emailing me now. If you really must know why you're an idiot, start reading again, from the beggining. It's all there.

Jesus did not associate Himself with a political party. That was not why He came.

Liberal/Democrat Platform:
Abortion
Feminism
Legalized Drugs
Homosexual "Marriage"
Over Taxation
Welfare- Wealth Redistribution
Anti-Christian
Political Correctness- Word speak (lying)

No, I don't see any way you can be a Christian and fall for the above list of degradation.

The problem I have with some, though not all, liberal positions is that they run contrary to my faith. The pro choice position is an example. I cannot recocile that position with a Christina world view. By the same mark, I have a problem with some positions Republicans hold, like the hyper aggressive state of diplomacy.

Jesus was, in my opinion, apolitical. He was not interested in politics and was concerned with how people should conduct their lives; pay your taxes, obey the law, help the poor, love others.

Per your own profile-"I'm a born-again Libertarian...the only way to save my soul"-I hope your not saying that your political party is an avenue toward salvation. If so,then your not a Christian in the first place. Politics do not affect your salvation, but salvation may affect your politics. I've known good Christian people on both aisles of the political spectrum.

Oh, I've known several Christians who were liberals. Just because someone is a Christian does not mean they are conservative fools. I think it has to do more with media portrayal of conservatives being Christian, while the liberals are non-religious. In reality, I've encountered several non-religious conservatives and religious liberals. Keep your eyes open.

John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

If you have ideas that are contrary to Gods word, and you are a Christian, the Lord will instruct you in the Truth. Christianity crosses ALL borders. There won't be any politics in heaven

the 'loud mouth christians' are die hard conservatives, thus making it hard for any other christians to be different. and Fox news doesnt really help, turning the word liberal into an insult.

and to the 'what party was Jesus' i think the person in the other question who said He was a raging liberal should get best answer. that was good.
