It's some kind of reasoning based, above all, on Romans 13:1-7. Although if you ask me, that's just a good reason for Christians not to be actively involved in the actual government at all, so they can go about their business loving their neighbor as themselves, as God commanded: Deuteronomy 6:4; Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 5:21-26, 38-48; 7:12; 22:34-40; 25:31-40; 1 John 3:11-24; 4:7-21, etc.

If you'll study the Bible with an open mind, you'll understand. The 10 commandments in their original context didn't mean that you shouldn't kill, but rather that you shouldn't murder. Those are two very different things. If you really want an answer to your question, go the the following website, and most importantly, pray about it. God bless!

Let me ask you one question. . . . . . . what country are you asking this from?
Because if you are an American, Christians have fought and died so you could worship God in any manner that you choose. This country was founded by God and by wars fought to win our freedom. Jesus comands us to turn the other cheek not paint a bullseye on our foreheads. I appologize for the more political answer and not a more spirtual answer, but Jesus was not a passovist teaching hippy. I pray that you seek your own soul and salvation by praying and studying the bible to gain your OWN answers to these questions instead of searching the thoughts of others. Maybe ask you pastor about it after you have researched it out yourself. God bless!

Have you read the book of Joshua?
That's one of the most violent, war involved books - all at the command of God.
I don't like violence or anything like that, but God must have His reasons why He's okay with it sometimes, and not at other times.

I think you should go back and read the bible again. Start from the beginning. If you understand it, you'll have your answer.
