It's a Sony, model #KV-32566, I think it is a 32".
This is the problem, the picture does come on and we have sound. No sooner it is on the picture goes black, then it continously blinks a picture then a black screen about every few seconds.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

The TV is only about 3 years old.

Our TV did that, too. It was a Sony as well and the tech said it's the picture tube. Either replace the tube or, as in our case, buy a new tv.

I't might be the connection of just your Video plug.
Newer T.V.'s Have a Voltage Sensor That Turns The Picture off when the signal strength is not strong enough.
Probably Something in The I/C that handles that type of thing.
Get A Quote For Repair and weigh It Up On A Replacement.
Also, Some Sony T.V.s (Larger Ones) have a tendancy to have a certain problem reoccur over and over again because of the circuitry design, Ask a T.V. guy if your models has any reocurring problems after repair and would that be relevant to your problem.

Here is a shot in the dark ! Your description rings a bell in the distant recesses of my memory , Sony TVs usually have a separate power supply contained inside a metal box fastened to the inside wall of the cabinet , among the power supply circuitry there may be a preset control called hi-cup threshold, the purpose of this control is to set the point where the power supply senses a fault and switches the set off , of course once the supply switches off it can not see the fault so it switches back on , seing that the fault is still there it switches off again and so on !!!this control may need a little adjustment to stop premature switching off. Oh well if I am right and you fix it then we will have played a blinder !! if not ! well then you will know a little more about TV . By the way ignore the rest of the idiots who gave idiot answers !! Good luck !!!

I'd say that it may be the I K Blanking cicuit. (does it blink in a sequence of 5 at a time?) sometimes you can make it run by turning down the G2 control. Its a large trasformer towards the back of the chassis, with the big red wire going to the top of the picture tube. CAUTION!!! the red wire can carry 35,000 volts, probablly won't kill you, but will cause you some discomfort. The control you want to adjust is labled screen, only adjust in very small amounts.

Televisions are almost never worth repairing unless you either know someone who will only charge you for the parts or if you are an electrician and know how to do it yourself. Since you are asking the question, I would wager that neither case apply to you. You probably did not have a 5 year warranty, but I would call Sony, as well as the store you bought it from, to make sure. I would probably start saving your money for a new television set, though. :(

I have seen the picture tube cause this type of problem quite a few times. Picture tubes are too expensive to mess with. Another cause could be a problem in the vertical circuit which won't cost much to fix. You won't know till you have it checked out

This happened with my 32" Sony TV before. I got it fixed locally for a good price (cheaper than a new one). It might be worth fixing, depends what your options for service are

When it comes to TVs it's beat to just buy a new one...the money you spend to repair time and time again costs more than just getting a new one.
Good Luck

No, TV is not worth watching. Read some good books, interact with real people, take a walk, do anything except sitting around watching a box.
