Learn how to listen properly. Most of us are so focused on what we are going to say next that we forget to pay attention to what other people are saying. If you focus on what the other person is saying, and try to understand their point of view, you will be a step ahead in the game.

I agree with the first poster - LISTENING. Don't be so anxious to talk about what's going on with you - Listen - let the moment and the conversation flow. By doing so, you'll learn, they'll learn and you'll both feel good because both people "gave".

P.S. A good technique to make people feel "listened to" and at ease is to repeat what they said (this is in reference to the telephone usage)...for example, "So if I understand you correctly, you are looking to do yada yada yada ya, right?". Good question and good luck with that!

The most important thing seems to be to LISTEN to the people you are tryingto communicate with.

Also try to put yourself in their situation to see hteir point of view.
