Your entire family and all your friends? Your mother? And this never happened before? This is odd, indeed, but, listen to this........

It's not selfish to feel hurt for what has happened along these lines. This actually happened to me one year and I must thank you for sharing this because I'm not the only one this has happened to, apparently, and I hope you feel better, too, knowing you're not the only one, either.

What did I do about it? Nothing with regard to others. I still recognized others on their birthdays. Did it happen to me again? No. It was a "freak" event. I DID go shopping for a piece of clothing, which I rarely do, and when I was asked "why", I simply stated it was a BIRTHDAY GIFT to myself. [Hint, hint] THEN, they all woke up and tripped all over themselves with apologies, they did set aside a little celebration, and some gave me "belated" cards. This is why none of them ever forgot again. But...this event did, and does, remind me that we often stand on our own.

I would suggest to anyone, if this ever happens, do something for yourself that you rarely do to help yourself through it and should others ask you why....because it's very rare that you would do it....you can THEN tell them it was for your birthday.

If it DOES happen again to me, what will I do? Take myself out to a nice lunch and/or dinner and, perhaps an activity I CAN do by myself....shop for a nice piece of clothing again or...better yet, the NEXT time....buy inexpensive pocket calendars for everyone with my next birthdate circled in red...LOL...but, other than this, I will not mention a word or make any kind of scene about it.

Remember, also, that there comes a point in time in all of our lives, if we out-live others or perhaps if we are temporarly away from everyone we know and love, when we must be prepared to spend our birthdays on our own, entertaining ourselves, and not feeling sorry for ourselves. Prehaps we will purposely go out, if we can, and "make a friend" on such a day....one such a birthday. After all, there's a saying that goes, "A friend is a gift we give to ourselves"!

Handling the situation in these various ways makes us feel better about ourselves, instead of worse, helps us get over the forgetfulness of others, and it shows others that we have a high level of class. And it is our classy example to them that impresses them and helps to keep them from forgetting again. Also, by genuinely laughing at their forgetfulness with them, they are further reinforced to remember you and your birthday. And, remember, you, TOO, can forget something, and they, TOO, will be able to forgive you, likewise.

All the very best to you and chin up.

Just a thought. Get some invitations, and set a date. Send the invitations out. If You live at home put that address, if not put Your address. Tell everyone that They are invited to a Birthday Party for, (Your Name), and put the place, date, and time.

They will get the hint. And if You live at home, I am sure Your Family will take over from there. If You have Your own place, give Yourself the best Party You have ever thrown. Then You can enjoy Your Birthday, You don't have to make anyone feel alienated, and I'm guessing They will not soon forget. Plus it will be something to talk about, and have great memories about.

Remember We have to teach People how to treat us.

Happy Belated Birthday, God Bless, and Happy Party....Have fun.

Let it go until his birthday gets here. Do not even mention his and don't get him a thing. I broke my husband from this because he did the same thing. I was so hurt because a week before he even asked me what I wanted and told me we were going out for a special dinner . . . none of it took place, he remembered it the day after . . . I was so furious and hurt, it still bothers me to this day but I can't change it but there was no repeat after I forgot his on purpose.

i have a few friends who don't remind us of their birthdays, and before i know it the birthday has passed and i am the idiot who forgot!! if those friends don't ever talk about their birthdays, or talk about how we missed them, how am i to know if they are angry or if it's important to them?

i think next year you should ask everyone before your birthday if they would like to go out for some cake/dessert or a drink or whatever.. that way they won't forget. if it's bothering you that they forgot, let them know that you were hurt they forgot... don't let it boil inside of you!
God Bless and happy belated birthday, darlin!

Tell them and stop going overboard with the "birthday" stuff for everyone. Just give them a card and a hug.

ITS TOO LATE NOW TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUT IN THE FUTURE IF YOU DONT WANT YOUR BIRTHDAY TO GO UNNOTICED THEN START DROPPING HINTS ABOUT 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR BIRTHDAY, SUCH AS, YOUR KNOW MOM I WOULD REALLY LOVE IT IF YOU WOULD MAKE ME A CHOCOLATE CAKE FOR MY BIRTHDAY, OR TO YOUR FRIENDS, HEY WHY DONT WE GO GET A PIZZA TOGETHER ON MY BIRTHDAY. DONT BE A MARTYRE NEXT TIME CAUSE YOU ARE ONLY DOING THAT WHEN YOU LET THEM FORGET.

Part of growing old is having people forget your birthday. Just get over it. It's not like they did it on purpose just to make you feel bad. It's not the end of the world.
