Your sister may not have time to answer letters, so keep the questions to a minimum. Please know your letters are are more important than anything, and are treated like gold.
Help her think of home in day to day happenings that are humorous. Something dumb you did. Anything a pet did. Something that happened in the neighborhood. Copy pictures of your family to the letter. Copy a comic strip or crossword puzzle. Tell her you put her in a football pool. Local sports scores. Movie star gossip. Tell her you'll tape her favorite TV show while shes gone.
Most important, tell her over and over how proud you are. Your words will keep the fire in her heart going no matter what any Drill Sargent dishes out.
By the way, and I mean this, (check my name), you too are doing a great job. It always comes down to family support and care during boot, and long after. Every soldier carries the pride of their family in their actions and commitment to duty. If she knows you are with her, she can do anything!
I am so very thankful for her service, wish her a successful career.

I liked pictures, and newspaper clippings from my home town. Believe it or not, you have no idea what is going on in the outside world the entire time you are in basic, no TV, no way to access the news so that was nice to read. Some words of confidence were always nice too.

Definitely send reminders of home, photos of friends and family, etc. You are completely cut off from the outside world. This sorta stuff is what kept me sane when I was going through.

Well I myself am heading out at the end of this month.
Just write about what you like or don't like about boot camp and anything else you think you should put in your letter.
Good luck!

"I am proud of you."
"I brag about you to my friends"
"I love you"
"I know you can do this, you can do anything you set your mind to."
"By the time you get this, it will only be about ......... days and you will be home."
