Islam is a religion of peace just as much as any other religion. No religion breeds violence, as long as it is tempered with good will, an open mind and reality. It is when religion meets fanaticism that things go wild. And this is not restricted to the Islamic faith. Someone tell me that the crusades were moral, please... Oh, and what about the fanatical Nazi party and the deaths of over 6 million jews? Neither of those stemmed from Islam. It is only recently that the fanatical faction of Islam has come to the worlds eyes, and it is wrong to generalize about the Islamic faith based on the actions of a few. I am not pointing a finger at anyone, I am simply saying it is wrong to say that Islam is a religion of anything but peace... unless you include every other western thinking religion. When taken to the extreme, they ALL breed hate and violence. So please, don't single out Islam and muslims

Islam can be considered a religion of peace. There is nothing in the Qu'ran that requires the Muslim to take up arms and fight against the infidels - LITERALLY! Although some Islamic clerics have learned that they can do so.

But, Christianity can also be viewed as a religion of peace. The passages of the Qu'ran that speak of fighting the warfare against the infidels can be understood much like the passages of Paul where he speaks of fighting the good fight and waging a battle against the evil powers and forces of the world. BOTH can be considered merely a "spiritual" battle, and not to be taken literally.

Some Christians took them literally centuries ago and waged "holy war" on the Moslems during the Crusades. Today some Moslems have taken those passages seriously and are waging "jihad" or "holy war" on whatever target they wish. Certainly their actions cannot be considered the acts of a religion of peace!
