That seems high. Neutering is a fairly easy procedure, as it is not truly invasive - just a matter of removing the testicles. It is almost always cheaper than spaying a female. I would say that with an office call, the surgery and the pain management meds for afterwards, you're probably looking at $200-$250 or so, even with the laser incision. Of course, it depends on what area of the country you live in as well. East/west coast is going to be more expensive.
Was he given vaccinations or deworming as well?

Unless your cat had an undescended testicle and they had to do a "spay" like procedure to retrieve it, in which they would have explained the extra cost and there would be a belly incision as well. Otherwise there is no way to justify a nueter bill like that. A normal nueter should never cost MORE than 150$.

lol. no that is not "normal." Infact, there is no normal.different vets will charge different amounts depending on many, many factors, one of which is weight. for my tiny toy poodle, I quoted 4 different vets in my area and got four very different prices for the cost of his neutering, it ranged anywhere from $100-470. If you really wanted to, there are clinics that will do it for free. They look at it as the Humane thing to do

It depends on the clinic, the vet, the size/gender/breed of your pet, where you live, and soooo many other factors. Some humane or rescue shelters will spay/neuter for free, and some clinics can go up to $600.
It REALLY varies from place to place, there is no DEFINITE price.

Was it almost $400 for just the nuetering or are you concidering anethesia, and did he have any shots or vaccinations? That does seem pretty costly. I had my female cat spayed and it cost I think $160 for everything. Office call, anesthesia, shots, vaccination, deworming, the whole nine.

Where I live (which is a rather small community) we charge less than $100 for a cat to be nuetered. You must have gone to a pretty high class vet.

back in feb I believe it was it cost me $150 per cat to do my 2 cats. I spent an extra $50 for the pre anestesia blood testing to make sure that they were healthy enough to go through with the surgery.

For my kitten, it cost $95.00. Then we spent an extra $35.00 on the laser technique.
$95
+$35
--------
$150 total
$400 is really, really high!

You got ripped off. Plain and simple.Unless there were complications, that is way too much for a routine procedure!
