people like the novelty of getting 15 different answers. Some with the word "fart" in them. But you're right, it's often pointless.

There is something called human experience which google will not get in a million years. Don't get me wrong, I google everything (especially when I don't want people to know what I am up to) but then there are certain things that you just can't google like people's opinion, their experiences, their references and comments.
If that doesn't give a persuasive arguement, consider that what google does is finds websites that have collected information. You will not always know how that information was collected nor for what purpose. What Answers gives you is a first-hand personal account of what people know and think and their knowledge pertaining to the context of the question posted here.
To be brutally honest, your question does the same exact thing - get's peoples opinion of why they don't effing google it and instead read answers here.
Just my 2 points worth.

You are so right. They could also use Wiki or find a question that has already been answered. Oh well, I'll just keep getting 2 points for saying google it.

At times I agree with you. As for me, usually I'm asking people about their opinion or their personal experience. I did ask once about a website because I wanted to know which website people would recommend rather than getting a search result with hundreds of websites that I didn't know anything about. I thought it would save me time by asking rather than having to look at each site that came back in a search. Hope this helps.
