I'm sorry that some people could not be respectful... I know it is hard, but a lot of times we just have to learn to ignore the ignorant.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5: 10-12.
Keep that in mind...

Other responses have offered the truth that many people are apathetic and un-sympathetic, however, some day the tables will be turned and they will be the ones left grieving. God has a nasty way of turning the tables like that.
And as for those who assert there is no God; where are they getting the evidence to support their belief? All of a sudden in this post-modern scientific age mankind has learned that there is no God? Science as well as ecclesiastical authorities also asserted 400-500 years ago that the earth was flat. Just because I claim there is a God, does not make it so; neither does their claim that there is no god.
So it is up to all of us to research the evidence!
As for the woman who lost her friend: so long as her friend believed that Jesus of Nazareth was the Christ, the long-awaited Messiah of Jewish prophecy; that He lived a sinless life; was the only begotten Son of God; that He was crucified, buried, resurrected from the dead, and ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God Almighty until all His enemies should be placed under His footstool; God has promised that all who believe in His Sin Jesus Christ would HAVE eternal life; they receive it the moment they accept these truths. Death is merely part of God's eternal plan and we have His promise that we will experience a resurrection of the body just as Jesus Christ did, reuniting His physical body with His soul and spirit.
No one can tell you for sure why her friend passed on at this time. But you must rest assured that God knows what He is doing. Her death may have been God's way of bringing others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. If you have the testimony of the friend that she was a believer, then rest upon God's promises that He will do what He has said He will do!
Pray for strength to get yourself this trying time, and look for what it is that God wants you to learn from this. Pray for those who have offered their mean and un-sympathetic comments here for Jesus says that in so doing, you will heap coals of fire upon their heads.
Keep your eyes upon Jesus, and He will see you through!

I went back and read your question and the answer from a "crazy" person. You can't seriously take her to heart. She sounded a little off her rocker.
When you put out a question on Yahoo answers you encounter people who just want points and will say really dumb things. Just take the nice things and dismiss the bad. Or maybe it is an opportunity to pray for them and whatever they may be dealing with to be so cold hearted.

It is too bad that you asked for help and got mean answers. You can't expect non-believers to be of any help to you, they do not understand. We are told to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us.
All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Mark 10:13
My condolences on you/your friends loss. But keep in mind we are also told not to grieve like one who has no hope!
Paul writes to the Thessalonians about the death of loved ones:
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
1Thessalonians 4:13

I, as a human being, apologize for all the Atheistic pigs with no regard for human suffering. I will pray for her. If she is a Christian, she knows her friend is happy now.

Life sucks, then ya' die. That's it. Sorry hun, pulling my sympathy string won't convince me to lie. There is no god, her loved one is eternally gone and lost, end of story.
Instead of worrying about the after life, life each day to remember her life.
