Depends. All the BMW prior to 2006 are CRAP. High repair bills and gas guzzlers and they look so ugly. Newer designs are alright though. Get the Z4 if he can afford $40k.
PT Cruiser is alright. The interior design is one of the best I've seen in that price range. Exterior not so much but it's very roomy inside.
But my choice would be the newly redesigned 2007 Nissan Altima. It's cheap ($20k) and has a push button start like an INDY race car. And you can get the V6 with 265hp. Fine automobile.

If both cars are brand new, then it's a matter of what you want; not what others say.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Can your dad afford to buy you a luxury car? Don't forget the insurance & car payments?
- Where will you be driving to & from? Don't forget about gas mileage.
- How many passengers will be travelling with you? Will you be hauling big things?
- How do you feel when driving the cars? Are your seats, mirrors, and controls comfortable? When you step on the gas & brake, are they responsive?
- Do you know anyone that would be jealous & key your car?
Keep in mind that this is your first car. Ask you dad if he could buy you a lesser car, and bank the rest of the money in stocks & bonds.

the BMW - a much better car. Plus, the PT cruiser looks like a toe.

Well, If you aren't his favorite child. He would give you a PT Cruiser. If I were you I'd take the new BMW. I foregot what series. But, I know it's badass.

If you are an intelligent person, you wouldn't have asked. But I would get the BMW in black with a tan leather interior.
It would help too if you put the model of the BMW.

Your in for a sad surprise when you find out what your really getting. PTs are junk and BMWs are for Old people, if you really have a choice buy Infinity/Nissan or Mitsubishi models, anything from europe is overpriced junk!

A BMW of course. Like it is even a competition! One is a hot german sportscar the other is a silly looking american piece of garbage! (I got A BMW 5 series when I turned 16)

if you want to look like your 60 get the pt cruiser. if you think your fly then go for the bmw. its all about class.

If he doesn't care about depreciation, get the PT Cruiser. If he doesn't care about high insurance rates for a bratty teenager, get the Beamer.

I know for sure the BMW will be safe not sure about the PT which looks good. How about a Volvo they look great now and are very safe. Oh and can I have a ride O_o
