Because before Jesus was here, people found atonement for their sins through sacrifices... Jesus had to be the ultimate sacrifice to end all sacrifices. He was doing us a great favor, otherwise we would still be having to sacrifice animals and the like. Instead of offering the animals blood for our sins... Jesus' blood was enough to cover everyone's sins for the reast of the world... all you have to do is accept it.

Because we have sinned, a blood sacrifice had to be made. The Book of Romans says that "for the wages of sin, is death." God is a perfect God and cannot tolerate or be near sin. However because God loves us, he sent Jesus.
In the Book of Genesis, after Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God sacrificed animals. Throughout the Old Testament the Israelites are commanded to sacrifice animals to make-up for their sins. Basically the sins of the people would pass to the animal. After Jesus came and died on the cross, we do not have to sacrifice animals but Jesus became the perfect sacrifice.

It was necessary for Jesus to die for our salvation because forgiveness of sins required a sacrifice, a shedding of innocent blood. In the Old testament, they used bulls, calves, sheep, goats, doves. But any animal used needed to be unblemished, (pure) in every way. But animal sacrifice didn't forgive sins, it only covered the sins, which is why they had to continue to sacrifice over the year. But Jesus (God himself) sacrificed his own life, a perfect life, so that whoever believes in him would not only have their sins covered, but forgiven. He promises this and gives us the Holy Spirit as a deposit until we get to heaven. Bottomline, salvation was not possible. Man could do nothing to save himself and needed God to act on his behalf. Hope this helps.

In the OT, the High Priest prepared daily offerings and sacrifices for the sins of Israel on the Day Of Atonement and without him doing this there would be no remission of sins or fellowship with God. Jesus has done away with sacrifices it is no longer nesseceraly for us to be forgiven or to have fellowship with God because he is the ultimate sacrifiice. If you don't accept Jesus (the sacrifice) you have no remission of sins. His bled shed was necessary.

Jesus was the only perfect human to walk this earth. When he died on the cross for us,he paid the ultimate sacrifice when he shed his blood. That through his blood our sins could be forgiven. If he had not we would have no one to forgive us of our sins.

To fulfill the promise to overcome Sin of mankind! Thus salvation was freed to hide our horrid state of spiritual being from GOD! Then as now we can resume a relationship with the Creator!

To put away sacrifice and mediate for us because we (humans) couldn't be sin free . It was too much for us to bear so He sent Jesus to put it away once and for all . It not only helps us now , but all the people in the past(Old Testament) that made mistakes and couldn't free themselves from sin are now washed clean and have a place in Heaven . Otherwise Moses wouldn't have been forgiven for disobeying God . God bless you and peace to you .....

I have wondered that for many years. I keep thinking that if Jesus is God, and he can do anything, why couldn't he do it some other way. But our sins penalty is death, that's the penalty for every sin. None of us can save ourselfs b/c of our sins. Neither can we save someone else b/c we've sinned. That's why Jesus had to come on this earth to live a perfect life. If Jesus didn't live a perfect life, him dying was for nothing. But Jesus was perfect in every way, and he took our sin when he died on the cross. He took the penalty of death on his shoulders. It was once for all, and all for once! He was the only person who could have payed the penalty and he did it. He rose again in victory over our sins and death!

If I break a vase, is it not my duty to replace it with something of equal value to the owner?
God made mankind, and gave us perfect blood. We, however, ruined it with sin.
Jesus lived a sinless life, meaning His blood was still perfect.
Since we 'broke' something that wasn't ours to begin with, we have to pay for it. Problem is, is that we don't have anything of equal value. The best we could offer is our tainted blood, along with our life.
However, Jesus did. Since blood must be shed to cover sin (consider Adam and Eve...when they sinned, their realization of nakedness... that is, their sin... was revealed... so they tried to hide their nakedness behind fig leaves... God had to kill an animal, and shed its blood, to make clothes for them to truly cover their nakedness. Also consider the ram sacrificed in Isaac's place), only sinless blood can atone for sin-filled blood.
Jesus died, and shed His innocent blood, so that we may be covered by it, and that God no longer looks at our vain attempts to cover our sin, but by what He Himself gave to us in replacement.
The price Jesus paid was more than enough to pay for all the tainted blood to have ever existed.

all throught the bible, blood is the sacrifice that covered sin. but it never made it go away.... it had to be repeated. but because jesus was god, he was the final sacrifice that once and for all covered sin, past present and future. that's why we cant' do anything to get into heaven... it's done. we just have to accept it.
