Royal Canin has a breed-specific one for Labrador Retrievers: http://www.royalcanin.us/dogfood/labrador.html

My sister tried it with her chubby food-inhaling English type Lab, and it worked for all of your requirements! Plus, he actually took twice as long to empty his bowl - the kibble shape is designed to slow Labs down.

At 12 months, it is fine to switch from Large Breed puppy food, to Large Breed food. Large Breed puppy food is supposed to slow down (!!!) the growth of the dog, so that it doesn't have growth spurts that will cause bone and joint problems. The dog still grows the same, just gradually and smoothly. After a year, most of the joints are about full sized, although the dog may look like a lean teenager. The dog can continue to grow and build muscle for another 18 months. And you can feed adult food. (yes, it is good to read the package.)

The better QUALITY food brands (Iams, Nutromax, Eukanuba) usually end up being more cost effective because your dog can eat LESS of these foods and get all the nutrition they need. Other cheap foods are filled with crap fillers like corn and lards that only give your dog empty calories that don't satisfy his hunger, but also make him fat.

Go to the store, read the labels... and read the estimated daily amount for the size of dog - it's usually listed on the bag.

Royal Canin makes a breed specific food for Labs, Labrador Retriever 30. My Lab is on it and looks great and has an easy time digesting it. Its the best food out there.

Canidae! I save about 23% over feeding Purina Pro Plan...there are no fillers, and the dogs waste (poop) less, and eat less..I feed a bunch of huge dogs, and it is really economical.
Also, I have saved on vet bills for my oldsters, as they are as fit as puppies...and never need their teeth cleaned..

Flint River Ranch. You feed half as much as store bought brands, delivered free to your door, and less poop because of the quality highly digestible ingredients. We use the fish and chips version. http://www.frrco.com/121668

You will find that they will eat about twice as much cheapo as better food.
Nutrition is crap in cheapo.

They will also leave a hulluva lot more
"land mines" in your yard, or the neighbor's.
