there are divisions of twenty-four minute periods, and even in western-based calculations the sunrise and sunsets last for twenty-four minutes, since vedic time also links with western standerdized time perfectly, we know that both are acurate in their own measurements. So is the proper time 24 minutes long or 48 minutes long?

thanks

Like that there is no time restriction on chanting the name or mantra of Lord. But when it is done during a specific period ti is believed that the effect of that chanting mantra or name multiplies. Gayatri being a part of ritual called Sandhya Vandan one could understand that one can get better result and effect if it is chanted during Sandhya period whic is juncture between two time factors viz; end of night and beginning of day ie early morning, end of morning and beginning of evening ie noon, and end of evening and beginning of night ie sunset time.

Gayatri Mantra can be recited atleast 3 times between the hours of 4 - 8 am. during the noon time and again between 6 - 8 pm. However, Gayatri Mantra can be recited during bath times ( you are bathing the temple of God within you, so its a good time ) and anytime, once it comes from the heart. Everytime you recite this mantra, you also wash away past karmas. God bless for seeking wisdom.

The person "nutcase" gave a really good answer in terms of the auspicious timing for saying the mantra. I would just like to add though, that the mantra can also be said anytime you feel like it too. Every moment is a gift from God. There is no time that we can't pray to God. God is always listening to us. In this way, I think every moment is auspicious because it was created by God.

Sorry, I am a Christian...I don't know about these mantras. I know only the scriptures from The Bible.
