First of all you don't get in and most probably never will. If you answered all the questions on the application and answered no to the question, "are you now or have you ever taken any illegal drugs", you committed perjury and can be fined or sent to prison.

It's best to talk of the possibility of testing positive with your recruiter before going this far.

Read the application, it tells you right where you sign what will happen if you tell lies.

There wasn't a test before boot camp, or I would have failed that one too. During boot camp if you fail, they yell at you really loud and send you home. On a bus, doesn't matter how far, you get a bus. I don't believe that you can ever go back, not that I would want too. AND, LSD does show up in your urine for a military drug test (though my friend will argue that with me until the day I die). I failed with LSD in my system. Everyone that got sent home for Pot and Coke and stuff got kicked out the first week. I didn't get the boot until week 3. Then they send you to the barracks for the people getting sent home and you sit and wait for about 10 days before they get rid of you.

Guess it just depends. About three months back a few from my squadron were found possessing dope and actually tested positive to illegal substances. They're still in the force today, got a slight tap on the hand but that's it but this was only because of the number of people recruiting for the ADF (Australian Defence Force) the numbers are really low so they're not willing to kick anyone out. I'd say if the recruitment issue was different they would have had charges pressed.

They let you sit it again!

In the USMC they let you take a dictionary into the exam room. Its not so that Marines can cheat, its because the examiners get off on seeing Marines try to figure out how to open a book!

I like your question. I feel like I should know the answer. These folks seem pretty sure, and they probably are right. I was thinking about during draft time tho, can't imagine they'd defer you a year for showing up stoned!

If it is before boot camp you are ineligible for at least a year, if it is during boot camp you get booted and are never eligible again.

my daughter had taken a tylenol and it caused her to
test positive for pregnancy. she assured them she
couldn't be so they let her retest after so many hours
and she passed. if you test positive for illegal substances
i suspect it would be a different matter entirely.

They charge you and discharge you, OR they can send you to ASAP and retain you. All depends on your chain of command.
